Recently my two year old American Eskimo has been freaking out and running around like crazy after being let out of her crate, even after just a half hour or so. What's the deal?

How long is she crated for? If she's in a crate for a long time, she might just be needing to burn off a lot of energy.

Probably doesn't get enough exercise and is thrilled to be out. Try running her or walking her for 4 or 5 miles before you put her in the crate. Will have no problem resting if she is tired out.

She is actually more energetic when its only for a short time if I go to the gym, then if were gone for a few hours. We are thinking about letting her stay out but aren't sure if she is ready yet. Plus we rent so we are kinds nervous about her destroying something.

She is just happy to see you again.

Our pointer goes on long (12 mile) runs. Even after that, if we touch his leash he will start dancing around in circles begging to go running again. Your dog probably thinks your return means something exciting will happen.

If you are worried about leaving her out, you can try getting baby gates and confining her to a small, dog-proofed section of your house or apartment. One of our dogs is completely trustworthy in our house so he stays out. The other dog is convinced that our absence is a spectacular time to go food or toy shopping in our house so he gets crated for short periods of time or confined to a dog proof area for longer periods.
