I'm not mad at Ryder. He was giving me signals. I just don't know how to translate his language yet. We'll get there. And, yeah, I'm sure we're in a transition period right now in which anything goes. Gonna take a while for all systems and schedules to normalize completely.

As the saying goes, dog sh** happens!

BTW, took Ryder to my vet today for a physical and some baseline bloodwork and to talk about his heartworms. I haven't seen Dr. Kevin since the day we put Bandit to sleep about 16 months ago. Dr. Kevin walked in and told Ryder that he had landed in clover. Ha! (My dogs are definitely well-taken-care-of.)

I asked Dr. Kevin about a lump I felt in Ryder's throat. I'm not familiar enough yet with his specific anatomy to feel comfortable with all his various lumps and bumps. You know how it goes. Dr. Kevin said all was fine, but that Ryder had one of the biggest larynxes he'd ever felt. Which is hilarious because the dog does NOT utter a sound. :-)

He is a petite 51 pounds. I was surprised he was that small. I knew he was much smaller than Bandit, who was perfectly proportioned but long and tall and maintained a healthy weight of 73 pounds, but I was expecting Ryder to be closer to 60. Dr. Kevin said he's in great shape and doesn't need to lose or gain any weight. Which is good to know. I think you can give dogs a 5 pound leeway around their healthy weight, and Sibes in particular will fluctuate with the seasons, so good to know I need to keep him in the 48-53 range.

Ryder is a great looking dog! So glad to see that you have a new dog in your life. As for him not uttering a sound give him time. I had Dash for about 3 months before he ever barked but after that he had no problem and loved to play herding games or run agility and bark as he did.

I think once he is settled in and feels at home he may start "talking" as I have yet to meet a Husky that does not have an opinion about things.

Wishing you both many many happy years together!
