It was purchased at a regular people's drug store.

I've never taken the temperature of any animal or other human, and recently read that rectal thermometers have bulb ends to make them less likely to cause tissue damage, but this one doesn't look like it's any bigger on the end than elsewhere . . . rather the opposite.

I don't have any regular old skinny glass mercury thermometers to compare it too, to see if it's more wide on the end than they are.

(On the back it says that it was made in China, and is distributed by Walgreens, if that makes any difference.)

Cough up the $30 and buy a good ear thermometer. It makes taking a dog's temperature unbelievably easier to do.

I was told to purchase a digital thermometer specifically for dogs, so I have. It is obviously designed a little differently to be more accurate & safe for dogs, and supposedly the readings are more specific for dogs. So I did.

I have no idea how to use an ear thermometer, but read once how to use it, and don't think I could do that with my dog. I'm nervous enough as it is thinking about taking it rectally.
