what's that? Is that like a Henway house?

I also didn't think of fostering for soldiers or people in hospitals. or other emergency situations, that makes sense.
Bahaha - that is what auto correct changed "in between homes" into when my fat fingers must have hit a wrong letter.

But, yeah, me and another lady get calls from the local women's shelter. There have been women who feel they can't leave because the most shelters can't take dogs and abusers have been known to hurt the dog to punish the woman for leaving. I can generally find someone to temporarily take the dog in those situations if I can't.

Oh, and we do it for free.

well that is great that you can give your time away like that , unfortunately some of us are not sitting on the golden spoon and are unable to do much for free . and it was not fostering it was pet sitting and they used the term fostering not me .

I highly doubt you will find any pet sitter that does it for free , no it is a business and no business can operate for free .

netwit that is great for you but this is a person I don't know personally and we had an incident once before with pet sitting and they said they would pay me when they got back , they never came back for their animal so now I would never do it without a contract and money upfront . If they are not willing to pay upfront and sign a contract I would never do it . My motto is cover they self .

Of course they used the term fostering because THAT was what they were looking for, not a pet sitter. You may have thought they should have been looking for a pet sitter, but they weren't.

Just make sure in the future you refer to yourself as a pet sitter and the service you are doing as pet sitting. That implies a fee will be involved. Don't use the term fostering in the future, which according to what you wrote in your first post in this thread, you did.

Right. The caller used the right term. He wanted help, not looking for a service. I belong to a lot of animal groups online and there are pleas for fosters for so many different circumstances.

My heart bled for a man that ended up having to surrender his 2 dogs. He didn't want to. I can't recall the circumstances, but they were legit and it was awful.

I think someone went to spring them, but I am not sure.

If this is a college student who just wants someone to take care of his dog for him for 2 weeks for free, that sounds like someone who needs to learn what being an adult is.

You were asked to provide a service which I have never heard of being paid for. You declined. What is all the excitement about?

you took the words right out of my mouth. My husband actually have a small pet sitting business and yes, he gets paid for his work. He doesn't happen to sit the dogs and cats here, but goes to people's homes. Fostering goes via a shelter and yes, is a temporary home for pets waiting to be adopted or getting over surgery or some such thing.

Pet setting for free to help a friend or relative out is one thing and I am sure that is what you are talking about. Asking for a stranger to foster a pet is quite different.
