I am in the works of planning a cross-country move to the Seattle area into probably a southern suburb. I hear that Seattle is one of the most dog friendly places in the country however I own a pitbull puppy and that still seems to be a struggle. Even though the truth behind Pitbulls that I now am experiencing firsthand, is that they are the sweetest things in the world. Will it be that difficult to find a place of living out in that area that allows them? Let say Renton, WA. That's on the top of my list right now but I'm still doing research for my move, does it really matter more so on the Landlord? Or are there actual regulations still enforced that I will not be allowed to have a pitbull anywhere in the town?

Check the laws in the area, some places like Denver, sadly have stupidly outdated laws regarding pitties. There are also issues when renting regarding insurance coverage, the landlords insurance may not allow for certain breeds. Don't expect it to be easy and be prepared to possibly pay more, provide your own insurance and beg. You may want to work on getting your dog certified as a Canine Good Citizen to help show that yours is very well trained. Good luck!

I would call the individual cities and ask. But, keep in mind that if you are renting, some landlords will not rent to you based on their insurance requirements, so you'll want to make calls on that also.

It can be difficult to rent with dogs of any type due to irresponsible owners.

I would take care of getting all this info before making the move. Our shelter here is full of pit bulls and pit bull mixes with a sprinkle of chihuahuas. Far too many times people get rid of the dog, any dog, because the place where they are moving won't allow them.

This will give you some idea: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/0...n_7216190.html and http://www.dogsbite.org/legislating-...e-by-state.php I would always follow up with a phone call because sometimes changes are made.

Ok thanks. Hopefully it'll work out. I know there's just straight up bans in certain areas so this will technically be easier, but still a headache. Once I can find something tho it'll have been worth it to get my pup out there with me

After checking both of those websites you linked me I'm glad to see that Renton is not included on any of the lists. However I did call the city to doublecheck but of course I had to leave a message. So it's looking like it's going to be based on Landlords and insurance policies

By far the majority of landlords will not take dogs of any sort. Those that do take dogs will not take a puppy. Those that take dogs and puppies will very most likely not take a pit-bull.

As far as I know, there is no law in Washington that bans pit-bulls.

I'm always curious as to why tenants who know that they will be moving go out and get a new piddly chewing puppy just before they go out to look at a new rental. And why would any tenant get a pitbull when it is so difficult to find a landlord who will take your dog? It's not like there aren't hundreds of other breeds and other crosses that are readily available and much easier to rent with.

By the time I move out there he will be about a year old I just generally like to call him a puppy it's just the way I talk because of my love for dogs. He will still be young but he won't be a baby like it sounded

My inclination is to say that you probably will struggle to find a place to rent that will allow your pitbull.

I can't imagine landlords jumping to rent to someone with a pit, especially considering some of the recent news from this area.
