I have mostly owned pits and labs that don't require grooming. On Dogs 101 I saw a Pom with what was called a "Puppy cut " that was MUCH more attractive that that long mop. What other breeds can have "puppy cuts" and how often do they have to be trimmed?? Any info welcome.

Any long-haired breed can have their hair trimmed short (which is all a "puppy cut" is).

I have friends with Poms and Shih Tzus who have them trimmed every 5-6 weeks. Pretty much the same as my personal haircut schedule! If I ever get another long haired dog again, I'll do that too. Much easier to manage than long hair.

I just gave Georgy, our Springer, a puppy cut yesterday. I have a good set of clippers and scissors and it’s easy enough to do, it just takes time. She’s been groomed almost daily since we got her, so she accepts it all with no problem. She was good even when I use the clippers to trim the hair between her pads. Usually every six to eight weeks she needs to be groomed: when her coat loses its shape around her head, paws and tail. She could use a bath by then too.

I got a set of clippers for our last dog after we moved and he wouldn’t let the new groomers touch him. He was grumpy with his old groomer and decided there was no way
someone new was doing it. That was one of the reasons I wanted a puppy this time out. It makes a huge difference when they are used to being groomed from the start.

When I used to take our other Springers to a groomer, I always got puppy cuts for them. Georgy isn’t a show dog, she’s a family dog, so there’s no point in maintaining a show dog coat. I leave some feathering, but not much.

I think that show poodles are the only breed that is very specific about what a puppy cut looks like. Generally, it just means that the hair is clippered short all over.

Then ask the groomer for a summer cut.

And maybe talk to a couple of different groomers. I'd be wondering about the qualifications of a groomer who doesn't know what "puppy cut" means.
