I find it interesting. My BF does have a dog and I do have to deal with dog issues occasionally.
Makes sense, thanks for responding.

You're here because you want to shed your inhibitions of dog ownership and you're inching closer to fully embracing the fact that dog fur is really just a fashion accessory.

LOL. Ah no. Dog fur is simply not done in my house.
And one of those tasks is companionship. It might not be what the dog was historically bred to do but that is the task of the majority of dogs in the U.S. today. So, asking those animals to lie on the floor when their job is to be with their person is odd to me.
FWIW, I can’t stand the term “fur baby.” My dog is not a baby.
The floor in a nice cozy house is the Waldorf Astoria to a dog where it is safe from being attacked and sfrom the elements. No one owes them a bed or anything more than that. They should be lucky as hell for the privilege of sleeping on your floor. And BTW I love dogs.
All of my dogs have beds on a comfy spot in the house. They don't need to be in my bed.
They are beautiful! We had this breed growing up because my dad liked to hunt pheasants. They were smart and extremely protective. I wouldn’t want 4 big shedding dogs in bed with me either. When I rescued a husky shepherd mix it took a week for him to understand that he wasn’t sleeping with us as he was a shedding machine and I have asthma. He was used to sleeping with his owner. I paid 150 for a big thick dog bed that I put next to our bed.
Everyone is free to do as they chose, obviously. But I do have a question for dog owners who own dogs larger than a lap dog. Do you seat your guest on the same couch where your dog or dogs sleep? Are you not concerned about the guests getting hair on their clothes? Do you actually buy furniture specific for the dogs?
If we substitute Cat for Dog.......
Well, the Tabby Cougar, full body Tabby but the face of a Cougar, isn't Cougar size.....but he is certainly heavy enough. But no, the cats are not larger than lap pets.....but if I had one, say a Labrador (I think they are cat friendly)......SURE!
Would I sit my guests on the same couch where the cats and dogs sleep? SURE!
Concerned about guests getting hair on their clothes? If I am not concerned for me, why should I be?
In a way, this point is rather interesting. Been watching a lot of "A Touch of Frost" and in one episode, cat fur is the culprit. What is it about people to be so anti hair? Even more so for I have been fantasizing about Jack, George, and Hazel visiting for a conference and staying at this Texas Lady Enforcer's ranch house for the visit.....well, if Jack could put up with my feline fur, I guess I could go for him frying chips.
Do I actually buy furniture specific for them? Well, yes, from many different considerations. The full size sofa I bought to be the 3rd wall in my living room is fabric, not leather. It is covered with blankets and throws galore. I try to discourage them, to little success, from clawing the expose parts. i do accept that any new furniture will quickly become an expensive kitten toy.
I do get a kick out of it to look over and see 3 of my cats, a brother and 2 sisters, to all be sleeping on the sofa together. The Tabby Cougar also spends time on the full sofa but at the top.
It's their home, too. They are family.

So, if I had a dog, nope. Not to mention the hair and slobber. No thanks.
Hmmmmm, when Mom was alive and well, she always had breakfast first before her dogs. She wanted them to know who was the Alpha.

So yeah they deserve a little pampering and a good nights sleep when they are sore, tired and need to recharge.
Even my old friend who sometimes goes bird hunting with me finds room for his favorite gal old Dutch.
Does this also help with hunting by minimizing your human scent which might alert your prey?

What a great pic! Looks like a family portrait.
To those who wonder if guests sit on the couch where my dog has been, of course they do! I have a throw covering the cushions and remove it when guests arrive and since my dogs don't shed, there's no problem.
My mother told me "if you lie down with dogs you get up with fleas." :-)
So did mine; but she meant it metaphorically. She insisted on having a clean house. And her clean dogs were allowed on beds and most other furniture.
She did feed the dogs from the table, but only after the humans had finished eating, and the dogs were expected to wait peacefully for their snacks (and usually did). They'd eat on the floor, not at the table.
