Sometimes certain breed rescues will take mixes if they resemble the breed and if they have enough foster homes. Maybe you could even foster him for them and they could post his picture on their website, the more publicity he gets, the better. And they screen homes and should the adoption not work out, he'll always go back to the rescue (they sign a contract), he'll never wind up in a pound. Thanks for taking him in and good luck w/ him.

You're a sweetie for taking him in .

Since your home is the territory of your Jack Russell mix, the new dog will most likely be submissive to your JR. If that's the case, they might have a relationship that works.

I took in a dog that was dumped in my neighborhood last fall. I though there was no way my female dog would accept her (very dominant female), but she did . They are the best of buds and you'd think they were from the same litter they're so close! But they didn't meet until they were 7yrs and 2 yrs old.

Take it day by day, you need patience to find a rescue group. Best of luck!

Thanks all, for posting your thoughts and ideas here. We are all dog lovers and just want whats best for the abandoned dog.
He was not outside this`morning. I should have kept him in.
Yesterday, I noticed that everyone who walked by here, that dog would go right up too.
Its amazing to watch their expression, and listen to them when a stray dog walks up to them. They look away quickly, try to ignore it, and then start yelling at it to "go away." Not many think twice that this dog could be thirsty, or hungry, but I guess not everyone wants it to hang around after feeding and watering it either. ;-)

Could you clarify if this was a male or female? Your posts keep flipping from male to female in your descriptions.

I was under the impression that you took this stray in. But now, you can't find the dog. Hmmm....

This was a female. I did let her in last night..to get out of the storm.
FYI.. She is back. Maybe she needed to wander off to take a dump.
I also said that she is NOT an indoor dog, and I can`t keep her inside, as much as I would love too.
Why? You interested in taking her in? I`m putting an ad in the paper today for her.
