I knew I'd seen those ears!! They remind me of a GSD puppy. Before their ears stand up perfectly on their own they're kind of all floppsie!!
Not saying that's what the other breed or one of the other breeds in there is. Just saying that's what it reminds me of. The more I look the more I see lots more pit. I think it's heavy pit, maybe 70% even. Just can't pinpoint the rest.....
Yep, if the dog is of one of the breeds that they have identified DNA for. They still don't have all of them. The more popular ones yes, but the lesser known breeds aren't done yet. So if it's got some Basenji in there it wouldn't show. But it's a cool idea. I've had a few fosters come through my door that I'd love to have typed. Just didn't have the $$ for it!!
I say he looks to be, Border Collie, German Shepherd, Dalmation and Boxer. The ears look German Shepherd, the black and white coloring from Border Collie, the brindeling from boxer, and the tail looks Dalmation.
The tail is very deistinct as well as the ears. Most dogs don't have a long skinny tail.
He's definately an adorable doggy, what ever he is.
What a cutie and certainly a very interesting mix.
Looks like a Australian Cattle Dog and Pitbull mix along with something else. He sure has big paws.
One of our local shelters has a dog with similar ears and they call him a blue heeler mix (Australian Cattle Dog Australian Cattle Dog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Probably some pit (or other 'bully breed') in there to cause the brindling. His ears do look very Dingo-like and his face has some pit-like features. I sure don't see the boxer features, though. Maybe they just labeled him boxer due to the brindling or to avoid labeling him pit. Who knows.
What ever he is - he's adorable. So glad you found a friend. I hope you continue to post more photos as he grows.
Thanks for all the feedback! I'm sure his "mix" will become more evident as he grows, but I'm pretty sure on the pit bull part. There seem to be lots of "pitbull mixes" all over. I agree with c99, that he was probably labeled a boxer to avoid labeling him a pit bull. His brindle is very strong...a tiger stripe almost. He doesn't have a very boxy head. His head is very close to an Austr Cattle Dog in profile.
Yes, I see the Bull Terrier, too. I had that in my original post, but erased it thinking I might be too 'out there'.
