How does not paying for college mean one can't afford kids? Didn't we already cover this?
College or the equivalent is a prerequisite these days. Just because you don't agree doesn't make it less true. The USA benefits from lower taxes, but that just shifts the expenses on to the individual. If you can't afford health insurance, college, food, etc. move to another country where they provide those things for you. If you make the decision to bring a child into this world you should make sure that you can afford that child. Bringing a child into the world with the expectation that you can mooch off of others is (borderline) stealing from the truly less fortunate.
A friend of mine was married and had a kid she thought she could take care of, then all of a sudden her husband dies in Iraq and now she has virtually half the income she would have had. That's who our social programs are for.
At the very least you should adopt or foster instead of having biological kids; an excess of orphans are already here and it's cheaper for you to take care of them than for the state to.
And now they mostly work in small sedans....right? Don't be afraid to admit I'm right...
By "worked" I meant they sort of saved lives. Now they save more. As I already said, but you don't seem to understand, they used to be smaller. They used to be used for a couple years. Now they are used for 8 years. Please stop talking about things you know nothing (and I do me NOTHING) about.
90s standards and 2014 standards probably aren't that far off.
We aren't talking about the 90's. We're talking about the 80's. That's what you keep saying, anyway. My kids were born in the early 2000's and things have changed even since then.

Do child seats work in a Corolla or not?????
Yes and no answers have nothing to do with what I know or don't know.
Why wasn't it an issue for my parents? How are automakers able to sell so many vehicles that are unsafe for children?
It's not the vehicle, it's the placement and installation of the car seat that is a concern. It's a reason why many stores allow you to try fitting infant and child car sears into your car before you purchase. It's also why they offer certified car seat safety techs to install infant seats for you, and to check over and correct any errors you've made if you install one yourself.
If you want to find out for yourself, take a small car to a Babies R US one day and try fitting a few different infant capsule, and convertible rear facing seats both rear and front facing, in the center seat of your back seats. Then add an infant capsule and a full sized convertible seat side by side, and for fun, add a high backed booster in the third position by the window. Then please, do report back on your findings.

Did things change in such a way as to make small cars unable to carry small children?

Are we talking about a 1985 Corolla or a 2014 Corolla?
