Everything is going virtual, which is time and cost efficient. When people get adapted to online learning, it will be difficult to lure them back on campus. It is foreseeable that over 50 % of higher ed institutions will close down their campuses in the coming decade. Education reformation is in the making and thanks to covid!

Hmm.

I'll say no.

Every component of remote/distributed/online education has been around a while and can be considered mature. If there was going to be any move to 'campusless universities' it would be far more significant than the few night-school Us around.

Some education is rote learning and programmed marching. Past a certain point, though, it needs to be a far more interactive, spontaneous environment. It also needs hands-on participation for nearly everything but Lit and IT. And good education will always be more than reading the book and regurgitating it onto scantrons.

Education in the US needs drastic reform, top to bottom. But I don't see any wholesale move to remote schooling.

I can see a role for remote learning to supplement higher ed. I don’t see how it can be used to train, for instance nurses, teachers, journalists, artists, doctors, social workers, coaches, as the main way to educate.

People who intend to make their livings dealing with people, need classes that involve them with people. And some important learning does need to be “hands on.”

Pfah. Everything is STEM now, you know. They won't even use ol'-fashion consoles, just jack in directly to the network. People. Who needs 'em.

Everything is not STEM.

time to turn these college buildings into homeless shelters, students can learn online. Education costs will go down 40%. Plenty of good will come out of this shelter in place. Many more will be working from home in the future.

Not everyone is geared toward internet learning, thus there will always be a need to have classes on campus.

That said, more colleges were already doing online classes, such as the Freshman classes of U of Florida.
I asked a friend of mine who sent his daughter there, if there was any reduction of tuition, and he said no.
How on earth can they justify charging the same price even though they are providing less service and using less resources to teach kids online

I think many things will go away and not come back. The education racket I believe will be one of them.
