The last two weeks of school are a complete waste of time

One of the reasons why we start school in August is so that we can get more class time in before the end-of-the-year tests. We get out before Memorial Day after a month of state tests, AP exams, and finals. Report cards are mailed out a week after school is dismissed.

Many of us would like that too, but you should have heard the hullabaloo when they moved it to the week before memorial day.

No homework, lots of watching movies while the teachers do paper work, field trips, field days,, parties, awards, and a lot of other busy work is what my girls are telling me. Is it this way in your school? I understand things are winding down but it seems to me things have come to a complete stop way before the last day of school.

Those days spent as a "complete waste of time" are the days that you will remember fondly.

Kicking off in school, speaking to your teacher as though they are human for the first time all year, laughing with your friends on some ghastly excursion or other...

Miss those and you miss half the point of Education, which is not just about cramming one's head with facts.
