You better have a damn good reason to do so. Generally it can only backfire.. especially if the professor is in your major department.

Is it justified? What are the details? I think you should run it past many people you know and be very, VERY fair in telling all sides of it.

Unless he did something really bad (sexual in nature etc) then your grievance is unlikely to even matter.

Hard to say without more information but generally it depends on 1) how severe the grievance was 2) whether the professor has tenure and 3) what grade you are getting in the class.

If you are a young woman who is getting an A and your adjunct prof made a pass at you, you are looking good. If it was something like the "N" word, that's a definite. If your professor said something rude and you have a C, well, I wouldn't bother.

If the prof has tenure it probably won't help unless you can prove something positive as listed by those before me.

We had a professor hitting on a student continuously and the student was becoming a nervous wreck. We went to the Dean and there was a kind of quite investigation by the school and the professor wound up taking early retirement.
