Dear Committee Members,

I am writing to appeal my admission decision Thank you for your careful decisions on the admissions. However, UCSB has always been on of my top choices for few reasons. UCSB has one of the most excellent biology and pre-med programs in an undergraduate department and I believe by being able to attend to this school, I would be able to gain a significant knowledge and interest towards -- towards is really the wrong word here. You don't "gain knowledge towards" or "gain interest towards" the major which I wish to major in.
You cannot have something be "most excellent." It is already a superlative. Also, bear in mind that the school does not exist to benefit YOU. As far as they are concerned, they want to admit you because you will benefit THEM.

Throughout high school, I have always believed in taking on difficult challenges to be interesting. Aside from the positive reason -- This is a very vague statement following another very vague statement, given that "interesting" is generally a rather uninteresting comment to make., I spent my freshman year to junior year filled with advancement placement and honors courses due to selfish reasons such as appearing to be intelligent.
I found this comment confusing. You imply that the only reason you took honors and AP (unless I misread you) is that you wanted to appear to be intelligent -- which suggests that you're not intelligent -- and that you are concerned with appearing to be so, enough so that you took several classes for which you were insufficiently prepared, a decision you admit was "selfish."

This thought process clearly turned out to be ineffective and negatively affected me as a student. The pressure I received from courses which I was not capable of taking turned into unwillingness to work, thus leading to procrastination and lower grades.

Realizing what my limits were, I decided to spend the senior year continually doing extracurricular activities while taking courses which I could manage. The courses remained just as hard with less amount of work,
This is coming close to being a contradiction in terms. A course that requires three research papers, for example, is not "just as hard" as one that requires none at all.

but aside from the academics, one of the awards which I received was for being the most active person in the volunteering club.
Did you hold an elected office? If you did not, your participation is essentially of limited value.
Quote:
Due to constant volunteering, I was unable to attend to more than half of the Science Olympiad meeting.
So even when you're involved in extracurricular activities, you over-commit yourself and find that you're unable to fulfill some basic or essential functions of your duties?
Quote:

But -- Please do not begin sentences with conjunctions.this has turned out to be one of my biggest accomplishments. After spending the time which I had left on preparing for Science Olympiad competition, I was able to win second place in the Science Olympiad team. I have also continued to be involved in the track and filed team at school.
Do you mean "track and field"?
Quote:
Some of the major accomplishments which I have made in -- do you mean "to"?the team this year were becoming part of the varsity team and becoming the team captain of my particular event. I have also been taking in part of the physics bowl team, which is planned to compete at a national rank.
A minor mistake which I had made on the acclimation was the English course which I had failed during freshman year, which does not satisfy the “a – g” requirement. I have been taking an online course from BYU in order to satisfy this requirement and will be testing to bring the failed grades higher to a passing grade.
Although I have spent most of my high school years under my selfish reasons, my selfishness has further allowed me to realize what my limitations were act according to it. With all respect, I would like to ask you to reconsider my application once more.
In what way have you actually realized what your limitations were? In what way have you altered your behavior or reconsidered your choices? With all due respect, OP, I see limited evidence supporting your claim here.

\I have also been taking part of the physics bowl team...
I really think he meant what he said. He said that he has been taking part of the physics bowl team. I wonder how many parts he took. I also wonder how he took them, where he keeps them, and exactly which parts did he take. Did he take entire people, or merely components? These are mysteries which I would desire to have solved. I am sure others, such as college admissions officers and police officers, would want the answers.

After being out of school more years than I care to admit, I enrolled in a community college. I applied myself diligently to my classes, excelled my first semester, and enrolled in honors classes (including all of the intro classes for my major) for the remainder of my time at the community college. I applied to UCLA with a 3.93 during my sophomore semester and was accepted for my junior year.

Admission to the college of your choice is much easier once you have proven yourself academically. Community college is the way to go. They will give you a much needed foundation in basic writing skills as well as numerous intro classes in your major.

Admissions is not going to reconsider your application based upon the letter you've written. You'd be much better off going to a good community college such as Santa Barbara Community College, or Ventura Community College and then applying yourself diligently to your studies. Stand out by taking honors classes and turn yourself into the sort of student that the UCs are looking for.

By the way, if you thought honors classes in high school were too difficult, you'll never make it in a four year institution. It's a whole new world in college and there are rarely any chances for do-overs. You had better be ready to immerse yourself in classes that make your high school AP classes look like grade school. You should really consider community college first. A person can begin in community college and excel beyond their own expectations in a four year. I came into my academic career with only a GED. I now have a B.A. in my chosen field and have moved into my graduate degree. It can be done.
