[jUST A RANDOM RADICAL THOUGHT FROM LEVOWS NOODLE]

Do u think Downtown would prosper if we "moved it" maybe by Bassett, more towards the new center of town, everybody moved to the Far East, and has no desire to drive all the way to downtown anymore. I personally think, it would be ideal, theirs more money in that area, more thriving businesses, better surroundings, more chances to expand etc etc etc....

To be bigger and with higher buildings, (not sure why anyone would want that), you'd almost have to move it. It's hemned in where it is. Geographically, downtown has little space. To the west is another state, to the south is another country, to the north is a mountain. There wouldn't be parking for big buildings

Big downtowns are meant for places like Dallas and Chicago, where they are real centers surrounded by other parts of the city. If you're going to make tall buildings and terrible traffic -- put it on the East side.

Interesting idea.. the East side has plenty of land for it to grow..so that would be my choice.

I think the second Downtown he was refering to in ABQ is actually Uptown. Which has a cluster of about 10 high rises!

Default Why Not Two Places?

In many metros today, guys, there's the downtown area, and there are also concentrated "city centers". Those are concentrated office/mixed use developments that just happen to have high-rise complexes. You do see a lot of them in Houston and in Dallas. Where El Paso is concerned, there is room downtown for a few new high-rises, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have two other concentrated city centers elsewhere in the city. Muhnay suggested the northeast side, and I think it would be a fantastic idea. That's one of the things I thought about in that empty space off of U.S. 54. Leave downtown where it is; you don't need to move it. It can still have its own identity right where it's at. Think about it. You'll have downtown and a new office/mixed use development (future name here) with an identity all its own, with pure EP magic written all over it. El Paso can have something new.

Instead of Downtown, this could be Uptown.

I recently went to uptown, and I don't remember seeing many tall buildings there.. can you tell me which ten high rises are there. I like tall buildings, so maybe the next time I am there.. I can check them out.

I think I remember seeing a tall Marriott hotel there am I right?
