I would start by getting several hundred thousand US soldiers out of Iraq and Afganistan where they are (1) good targets for the locals to practice marksmanship or handling explosives and (2) learning how to use dope there's some really good s**t in Afganistan. Next why do we need 12 multibillion dollar aircraft carriers and nearly a hundred nuclear submarines and thousands of nuclear missiles? Are we planning to set the world on fire and and turn it into a nuclear wasteland. Why are we spending 800 billion dollars on Defense when we can't even run down a few jet liners in our own airspace? Why are we spending a few hundred billion dollars on secirity and intelligence that resembles a keystone cops movie?
We could save nearly a trillion dollars a year by cutting our rediculous military and security clown force to a small group only protecting our own little corner of this world.

Simple, just do what they have always want to do. Turn over control of everything, to large business.

If you think big government is a problem wait until it becomes run by big business. Remember businesses operate as feudal tyrannies from the top down with little or no control by the owners.

I'm not asking what you want to do. I'm asking if the Republicans who say they want smaller government are being specific as to how they plan to achieve it.

How are GOP candidates saying they will achieve a smaller federal government if elected? Obama is spending and hiring feds right now and it isn't just temp Census workers. I'm wondering, if elected, are Republican candidates saying they will eliminate Departments? Eliminate Agencies within Departments? Let people go who were hired in the last so many years? Eliminate executives? Eliminate programs? Eliminate positions, pemanently? Have a long term hiring freeze and not replace workers who leave, just let them go by attrition? Give incentives to people to retire and not replace them?

I'm sick of political candidates just mouthing what we want to hear. I'd like to hear how GOP candidates running for the Senate, House and eventually for President plan to make the federal government smaller so we can hold their feet to the fire and make sure they follow through after we elect them. So, I'm asking in the elections forum: Which GOP candidates are saying they are for a smaller government and how are they proposing it be achieved? And will some TV/radio hosts/newspaper reporters please ask them?
Simple do what Ron Paul and Barney Frank wants to do right now first.
(Barney Frank is being forced as you can see he was part of the problem)

They suggest CUT war spending overseas in places that are not needed first. NO MORE POLICE state.

After that NO more foreign AID especially ISRAEL. Get out of Iraq if the gov there still cannot stand on their own they are a complete crap nation and should just be let go. Too much welfare for them already.

After that budget for war should be cut by at least 1/2-3/4.

Now on to wasteful entitlements.

CUT first of all all gov worker pensions. They only get social security. Sorry gov workers you work for us not the other way around. If you want a stable easy job you just get paid less than private sector which creates wealth.

Absolutely NO UNIONS for gov workers anywhere in the country. You want to be in union go to private sector.

Public will vote for salary increases for the politicians every election year. If they like they vote more pay, if not too bad.

After that work on weaning people off social security and medicare. SS ponzi scheme money = change from ss money tax to regular income tax. Encourage people to save and make interest rate go back to normal = 5-10% at least, not = 0% like now after debt is ok.

Medicare only treat extremely needed people and not every single person. Life death situation/ extreme poor needing treatment. BTW medicare only at public hospitals. PRIVATE = no medicare at all. It is banned from private so they do not abuse it. Public hospital are run by gov and docs are paid crap because college is free for the docs and no suing for bad doctors ever. No need for insurance for public docs.

Private docs they need pay more but they can sue them so docs need insurance.

Ok now. That should help with a lot of the budget problems after everything gets done that is.

After everything is said and done BAN FED AND fractional reserve banking system. FORCE 1:1 no funny money banking.

Finally we can have a real economy again.

Encourage smart banking after that by banning fdic insurance. People research what bank is best deposit. If they unsure then split with many many banks through nation to hedge their bets. If one bank goes down not much of a loss. If they invested well then good for them and good returns. They can get insurance for bank gambling on their own as well if they want.
:P

No more too big to fail without fdic. Simple. Peter Schiff idea for getting rid of FDIC is correct.

Make corporations to be environmental friendly by not subsidizing them with capping the damages like BP.

That disaster was obviously more costly than a measly 20 billion. 200 billion is more like it and they still didn't fix it completely and possible leaks. Uncap the damage people can claim and done people can make them bankrupt if they want.

This will make corps take caution when making stupid decisions and care about environments more than any regulation will.

Simply put corps have to take responsibility instead of others(tax payers) footing the bill.

To encourage more small business. Remove stupid roadblocks like paperwork. Simplify accounting so anyone can do it on their own and not need any accountants to do the work. Sorry accountants find another job you will be out of it if i get my way.

Lawyers and accountants professions pumped up by the governments for stupid laws no one can understand.

After removing as much stupid regulation and paperwork then businesses can deal with regular competition from over seas.

Well ideas end there for now.

Why can't we just have smaller government, and not hand over anything to big businesses.
Instead, why don't we pardon Bernie Madoff, and have him run Social Security and Medicare. Looks like they are copying his business model.

Oh, and the government should be looking to reduce security and defense spending. And do we really need to be in Europe subsidizing their security spending?

That's the problem with Republicans these days. They talk about being deficit hawks and reducing government waste but they never actually tell you how, nor do they actually do it. They've had that problem in spades since Reagan was sworn in and you have to go back to Eisenhower to find a true fiscally conservative, Republican president.

They've managed to take the horrible financial management of the extreme left wing and the moral/social conservatism of the extreme right wing and morph it into one single party.

Here's a place that needs massive cuts. Good luck getting the GOP to touch this one though.
