Which is why I'm so heartened that polls show that Obama is doing terribly with independents.

We've seen plenty from the flip-flopper who changes direction as the wind blows.

Romney's position is whatever's politically correct for the day, unless he hears something better.

Romney cannot make decisive statements on tough issues when questioned and submits incomplete half thought out policies to the press. For example, his half thought out tax plan. Romney would be an economic train wreck, the sad part is, he can't even convince the BASE of the GOP he's one of them.

The GOP "base" is different today than it was 4 and 8 years ago. It's more extremist, 'nut case.'
Yep.

We saw it in the mid term elections too, when the extremists nominated a bunch of people who were totally unqualified for office. Those people got elected, and then proceeded to behave like whiny brats and got our credit rating downgraded, either because they're too dumb to understand what's going on or because they're hellbent on destroying the country if they think it'll score them a political point.

In some districts, they nominated people who were truly insane. Here, we got Art Robinson (here you can see him lose his mind on Rachel Maddow), a global-warming and AIDS denialist who makes a living by selling a home school curriculum littered with Christian theocracy teachings and overtly racist books (most likely chosen because they're public domain, so it's pure profit for him).

YOU are an Obama supporter and you have the nerve to say someone else would be an "economic trainwreck". Now that is funny!

dixiegirl7, You said Rick Santorum knows nothing about the economy. How can that be, when he voted 5 times to raise the debt ceiling w/o pressing for a single cut in expenditures (LOL)?

If RS were any dumber on issues of significance, he could be Wasilla's next mayor.

Any reasonable person understood EXACTLY what you were saying. Only a romney apologist would pretend not to understand what your statement meant.

The GOP won't win. Not only have there been a lot of conservatives open their eyes and see what a crock the GOP really is, but they will stay home or more importantly vote 3rd party in November. I have talked to many who like myself are not quietly walking away from the joke that is the GOP, but we are doing everything we can to get others to see how rotten the GOP has become and work toward getting more to vote 3rd party.
Why 3rd party? Not because a 3rd party will win in 2012, but because the higher the number of votes in 2012 for a 3rd party, the more momentum builds and the more people realize they actually have a choice if they want to have a choice.
Voting between Obama vs Romtorum is not a choice. It is more like being held hostage. Only difference is the door isn't locked and the noisy hostage takers can't actually make you stay, they just want you to believe you don't have any other option. I do and I will proudly vote 3rd party and take as many as I possibly can with me, Republicans or Democrats.

But independents will hold their noses and vote for Obama if his opponent is Santorum.

I think that voters in "safe" states should definitely vote for the 3rd party candidate. Swing state voters need to vote for R or D, since their votes REALLY count.

Independents never declare, or stick with a candidate early on. Wait until the general campaign starts, but even then, expect the independents to switch back and forth all the way to election day.

Obama will do swell next week, terrible the week after, etc. etc. Any poll is just a snapshot of one moment in time. At the moment, Obama is the only definite person who will be the nominee from his party. Look at how all the polls are flopping around for the Republican candidates. Nothing at all is certain or fixed right now
