Do not believe me - go read law for yourself.
And perhaps RP should read law, too.

Property Rights: The Hidden Issue of Social Security Reform, Cato Social Security Choice Paper No. 19
Well, I guess you could be self employed and/or declare a profit of "zero" or make
under 3500 (I think) or not file an income tax.. to not have to participate in SS.
Otherwise, you are going to be paying into social security tax, under law.

BTW - Paul is not a Saint but I do believe if he was, that would qualify him to not pay into the program under present law

All those interpretations about how not to pay, are fine, until the Justice Dept/IRS knocks on your door....
We all can't be Walt Anderson especially if one is in the House of Representatives...

Again though, he's a hypocrite. I don't care if he's put in 50 mil and only got $1 back in return, he shouldn't be calling programs "unconstitutional" for others when he benefits from them himself..

And btw, his comparison of the P.O. and the national highways to SS is BS. He has a choice of whether on not to accept SS..
If he is putting in more than he is receiving, how is he benefitting from it?

SS was set up to be a help in retirement. It is not to be used as your only income after retirement. The sad truth is that a lot of people that are 65 and over who have not had a good govt. job, or worked for a Corp which Mr Steal your pension and load with Debt Romney got his "Mitts" on such as Dr. Paul could use his SS amounts as the Average earner gets around 1000/month - medicare costs. I suggest you all look into saving into a retirement account of some kind. As we have seen since 2008 no one on this board or in the world has the ability to see into the future.

Yeah, but he is still a hypocrite living off of the backs of tax payers. He gets all of the perks and privileges afforded being a Congressman. Free food, free car service, free police escorts, free parking, security detail, free dry cleaning, free or reduced travel, free barber, etc... Most of the politicians are all smoke and mirrors. Paul brings attention to himself calling for the end of programs but he is still a huge part of the problem. Everything, I named, he has and still receives as a Congressman. If he really wants to cut spending, he should look in the mirror.

Lol.

I also find it unconstitutional. What is the only way I can get my money back? Anyone has any idea?

Right on. Perhaps people can begin to question his ethics if at some point he's collecting benefits beyond his contibution level.

I agree with this. If anything, he could take a stand on his view of SS's unconstitutionality and say that he will not take it and that the government can use his "voluntary" contributions to pay back all of the free services he gets at our expense anyway. Also, I'm sure as a government employee he will get a government pension, which are hefty, so he doesn't need SS. He is rich, he should give the money he's paying into SS to an old person in his district. I am in my 30s and don't expect to ever get back the money I pay into SS so I calm my anger about the situation by thinking that I am helping to support a poor senior (unfortunately all the old people in my family have passed away who were eligible) but I get POd thinking that rich people, like RP who already has a pension (and wanted to point out that most state employees, like teachers, who get pensions get a diminished amount, or no SS at all even if they have paid into the system, as my MIL was a teacher's assistance for over 30 years for her local school district and cannot get SS due to her pension) shouldn't get the benefit of extra money when the SS system is in danger of not having funds for the future. SS is the place where I do feel needs a lot of reform and even though RP feels the same, I also think he is hypocritical and greedy since he absolutely does not need SS at all.

You get your money back when you start drawing it from SS. You have the option of taking it early (lesser amount over a longer period), at the standard retirement age(65-66) or waiting to 70(highest amount paid, over in most cases a shorter time frame).

Thanks to SS and Medicare the life span in this country has increased. It gives the elderly the ability to feed and shelter themsleves and medical care which my expirence with my family was a positive both for me and my chidren.

Paul paid into it. Why should he not be able to collect?
