LONDON -- Ann Romney said her horse Rafalca had another "fabulous" ride at the Olympic team equestrian dressage competition and that she's thinking of breeding the German-born mare when she stops competing in a year or two.
Rafalca, the 15-year-old bay that has inspired political jokes about Mitt Romney's wealth and Republican presidential ambitions, had a solid performance Tuesday, although rider Jan Ebeling said he wished the score of 69.302 percent could have been higher.
This may be the end for the horse. When you want a gold medal to display and you can't do it yourself you 'hire' an animal to do it for you. What happens if that animal can't do the job???

Getting into an Olympics is- uh- a little bigger deal than winning a blue ribbon at a state fair.
At 15, Rafalca is at the prime age for a trials horse, and the Romneys won't lose a nickel on her, whether they decide to breed her and retire her as a brood mare or if they decide to campaign her for 4 more years.
They'll make money on her if they decide to sell her. One way or another, Rafalca will live out her 30+ years quite happily. Healthy mares can bear foals well into their 20's, and they can also perform quite well for this long.
Olympic equestrian events are always 50/50, horse and rider. All of are such high quality that, on any given day, any one of them, horse or rider, can beat all others.

Rafalca will soon be the glue which holds America together.

They won't lose a nickel because the rest of us have subsidized her. I hope that means we all get at least one free pony ride, seeing as we taxpayers all own a piece of her.
