For which they'll get SS and Medicare benefits, but that's not federal income tax.
Medicaid is not SS or Medicare. SNAP is not SS or Medicare. Section 8 is not SS or Medicare. Various other additional services and benefits are not SS or Medicare. People who pay no federal income tax contribute NOTHING towards the expenses of those programs yet are the HIGHEST beneficiaries of such.
Medicare, Medicaid: 21%
Defense: 20%
Social Security: 20%
Safety Net Programs: 13%
Benefits for federal retirees and veterans: 7%
Interest on debt: 6%
Transportation/infastructure: 2%
Education: 2%
Science/Medical Research: 2%
International aid: 1%
All other: 4%
People who work but pay not federal income tax actually DO contribute to 2 of the largest federal expenses: Medicaid/Medicare and Social Security.
Programs like SNAP come out of that 13% on safety net programs. And a lot of the people who get WIC and food stamps actually do work as well.
Interestingly, some of us have been trained to hate the people who use safety net services, but the majority of them DO work or HAVE worked in the past even if they are unemployed now. Lots of the beneficiaries are children. There are people who are lifelong users of services and those people need to be handled, but they are not the cause of our budget woes. They also don't vote in large numbers, so the attention on them seems misplaced. (Ditto Education. For all the chatter about "too much spending on schools and teachers", it represents only 2% of federal spending).
Speaking of unmarried mothers blah blah blah you do know that once a woman with a child goes on assistance, the first thing the welfare agencies do is slap the father with child support?
Um... that only happens if the father of the child is known and named on the birth certificate. Plus, money is only collected if the father has any money with which to pay.
Some years ago, I was probably at or very close to zero Federal taxes. I had a good-paying job, and was also a military reservist, receiving a large tax credit for monthly travel to my reserve center. Does that make me lack personal responsibility or not taking proper care of my life?
It does.......in RomneyWorld.
In real life? Most certainly not.
Of course, in RomneyWorld, it is ok for millionaires and billionaires to pay next to nothing in taxes (Romney himself pays less than 14% - at least for a year that we KNOW about - we have no idea how little he has paid in the last ten years because he's hiding it).
Have you ever condsidered WHY low income earners pay no tax. It is INTENTIONAL.
The fact remains that those who pay no federal income tax are leeching off of those who DO pay for federal benefits and services. And to add insult to injury, the federal government provides the most to those who pay the least or pay nothing at all.
Um... that only happens if the father of the child is known and named on the birth certificate. Plus, money is only collected if the father has any money with which to pay.
Wrong..
The fathers name does NOT have to appear on the BC. Rather the father has money or not, like the federal government, he will pay the easy way or the hard way. Once your in Child support system, you never get out UNLESS that child is deceased or comes of age and even then, you have to pay the back Child support plus interest. It should also be mentioned, when a woman is on welfare and the father pays child support, the monies are refunded back to the agency minus any additions which will go to the mother and her allotment is decreased.
The fact remains that those who pay no federal income tax are leeching off of those who DO pay for federal benefits and services. And to add insult to injury, the federal government provides the most to those who pay the least or pay nothing at all.
I'm glad you agree that those who are wealthy or damn near there who pay no Federal income tax are leeching off of those of us middle class that are.
People who work but pay not federal income tax actually DO contribute to 2 of the largest federal expenses: Medicaid/Medicare and Social Security.
Correct for SS and Medicare. They pay for it; they get it when they are eligible. (Medicaid is a welfare benefit that is not paid for by payroll taxes.)
Make that same concept true for all of the other government services and benefits (this is where Medicaid fits), as well. You pay for it; you get it. If you DON'T pay for it, then like SS and Medicare, you will not receive the benefits.
When asked why he didn't pay more in federal income taxes, Romney replied that he paid all the federal income taxes that he was legally obligated to pay.
I do believe the appropriate response from the 47% is, "We pay all the federal income taxes that we are legally obligated to pay."
Why does Romney think this response is good enough for him, but not good enough for 47% of Americans??
