United States presidential election, 1984 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the national popular vote, Reagan received 58.8% to Mondale's 40.6%.

Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states, becoming only the second presidential candidate to do so after Richard Nixon's victory in the 1972 presidential election

Reagan's 525 electoral votes (out of 538) is the highest total ever received by a presidential candidate.

No candidate since then has managed to equal or surpass Reagan's 1984 electoral result.

Governor Romney's total stands at 47.21%.
Other candidates split a total of 1.73% of the vote.

In 2008, Senator Obama won 52.93% of the vote. He thus becomes the first candidate since Eisenhower to twice top 51%.
47% ..... how fitting !!!

Reagan had a rousing mandate. Obama had a scanty mandate. 51% is a far cry from what Reagan had.

Note the thread topic, please.

Reagan did not reach 51% TWICE.

Thread topic is the performance of presidential candidates. Reagan would have likely reached 51% in 1980 if not for John Anderson, who got 6.6% (Reagan got 50.7%). If you take his two runs together, Reagan's average was 54.7%. Obama's was 51.95%.

What you call "focus" I call "inability to see the big picture," aka "tunnel vision." This is a flaw of thought process, not a plus.
