Right after the first of the month I went to healthcare.gov to look for information for our uninsured daughter. She doesn't get health insurance through her employer, and hasn't been able to afford health insurance on her own. And the website was a mess - didn't get far into the process at all.
Last night I tried again. The response time was great. I didn't try to set up an account for her - she has to do that for herself. But I was able to give some general information, and access a brief description of 30-40 different health insurance plans that are available to her, along with the cost of each.
Once her tax credits are figured in - she doesn't earn much, so she'll qualify for tax credits - she will be able to afford a fairly decent plan ... and that will be a HUGE improvement over not having any health insurance at all.
The website is working much better now (and yes, it only had one way to go - it was *awful* in the beginning), and the performance will only get better and better.
The roll out of the Affordable Care Act - and the Act itself - will only cost Democratic candidates votes they would likely not get anyway. But it may just result in a net gain, not loss, for many Democratic candidates, from those individuals who have been unable to afford health insurance in the past ... like our daughter.
The obama administration is unraveling at the seems, and the ACA will be the final nail in his coffin. Even the liberal press and all of his former supporters are jumping ship. ACA is a complete disaster and now Benghazi is resurfacing with even his most ardent supported seeing the light. the fraud is finished...
^^Exactly. Anyone who believes ACA won't affect the credibility of the liberal politicians who've championed Obama without questioning anything is deluding themselves. Add the IRS scandal and Benghazi...where's the move to impeach this reality-impaired imbecile in the White House? 'Leadership' in the Democratic Party has fallen to an all-time abysmal low. Sen. Harry Reid and AG Eric Holder need to be ousted, too.
The majority of Americans get their insurance through their employer, so the problems with the exchanges don't affect them in any way. But they will be enjoying many benefits of the ACA, like allowing their kids to stay on their insurance until they're 26, no denial of coverage for preexisting conditions, no being dropped if you get sick or make a claim, preventative care at no cost, and the elimination of lifetime limits on essential services. People are going to be happy with the positive changes the law affords.
It's a website. It can and will be fixed and no one but Republicans will dwell on it (and probably continue to waste time and money on hearings and investigations, because that seems to be the GOP's one and only idea of what "governing" is. )
So no, despite the Republicans' fondest wishes, I don't think the flawed rollout is going to cost the Democrats in the upcoming elections.
Typical White House Democratic spin. First Obama and the Dems claims the sky is falliing and that millions don't have healthcare because of pre exisiting conditions.
1. Yet they fail to mention the majority of Americans have health insurance through employers/medicare/medicaid and the vast majority of those policies DO NOT discriminate against pre exisiting conditions.
2. They now spin it saying the exchanges only affect 5% of the population who buy insurance individually. Well duh? The only people who were denied coverage were from those who buy coverage individually. So if they say it only affects 5% right now, why were they making a big deal of pre exisiting conditions when it affects so little people. 15% of the nation has pre exisiting conditions. So 5% buy indiviudal insurance. Of the 5%, the max getting denied is 15% of that 15 million. And really that number is probably closer to less than 1 million getting denied coverage on the individual market.
So they change the entire health system to help less than 1% of the population?
Do you think the debacle of Ocare will cost them votes come 2014? 2016?
The Affordable Health Care Act of 2010 will cost at least one Democrat Senator their job. Mark Begich (D-AK) will not be returning to the Senate after the 2014 mid-term election.

The ACA is going to cost more than Mr. Begich his job. The statists can say goodbye to Senators Landrieu, Pryor and Kagan too. At least.
No, the ACA will not cause much trouble for Democrats in 2014. Whatever problems that will arise will get addressed. The deep division within the GOP and America's souring of them having any control in DC will dwarf whatever problems arise with the ACA.
I agree with the GOP is divided and primary fights might hurt them .The question will be as peoples ACA insurance roles in how happy will they be with it ,It is clear the president lied , it is clear most policies ar more expensive and people are losing the insurance they had . So how the masses feel about Obama care will have an effect on 2014 elections
