Really? Show any video of a Republican presidential nominee candidate ever saying Obama is the first mainstream African-American who is bright, articulate, and clean.
You bring this absurd item up because the GOP can't win on issues.
He's such a racist that the first black president chose him as his running-mate.
VP picks are all about strategy, not about relationships.
Do I think Joe Biden is a racist? No. Do I think the media covers his gaffes that may inaccurately portray him as a racist? Definitely.
What, exactly, is not racist about calling Obama the first mainstream African-American who's bright, articulate, and clean? That expresses Biden's opinion that African-Americans are stupid and dirty, with Obama being an exception.

What happened to reading stuff in context? What Joe clearly is saying is that Obama is the first African-American Presidential candidate who is bright, articulate and clean. Think of African-American Presidential candidates who preceded him: Jesse Jackson, Alan Keyes and Al Sharpton. Looking at that glorious list, you see why Joe's description is absolutely true. Unless you guys are Jackson and Sharpton fans. Obama is the first African-American Presidential candidate that mainstream white Americans could get behind. No one is going to dispute that, even the FNC/AM radio crowd.
Or do conservatives actually think that Joe was saying that Obama is the first African-American (Presidential candidate or otherwise) ever who is bright, articulate and clean . . . . . since the first one was sent here for slavery hundreds of years ago? Does that make any sense at all? No.

That's not what he said. That's what you want to think he said.

Yes, it is. At that time, Obama responded by saying he disagreed with Biden's characterization of the African-American presidential candidates as being inarticulate, dirty(?) and ugly. He mentioned Jackson, Sharpton, among others. Obama then pursued Biden to be his VP. If he perceived Biden's comments to be racist, you think he would have?
So tell me, you think Biden was saying that Obama was the first black human being since slavery to be articulate, bright, good-looking and so on? Really?
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy."
As if no other mainstream African-Americans are/were articulate, bright, and clean.
C'mon, you are just being disingenuous now. What the hell is a mainstream African-Americans?
You are taking the quote out of context.

Biden is racist. Period.
I can tell you that my Indian-American friends would agree with that statement. We've joked about that before. And I am sure you have, too. Everyone has. Everyone. I am sure you were offended by Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.

Although I'm sure Biden didn't mean it in a racist way, it surely SOUNDS racist.
If, for example, Ted Cruz made these same statements, would you characterize him as a racist? I have a feeling you would.
