Well, I would not have said it, it was just needlessly dismissive.
The larger point is that if there are soooo many people in the USA who only understand Spanish, but not English, then it's just more evidence of a failing immigration system.
What a snob Trump is! I'll bet his German immigrant parents had to struggle to learn English and spoke German long after coming here. Freedom of speech covers---guess what---all speech! First generation Americans have always used two languages and understood their native language the best.

Being an immigrant is one thing but being a citizen is quite another. If you were born here then you more than likely speak English. To become a naturalized citizen you have to know English (with rare exceptions). And guess what? Only citizens can vote.
Why does Trump care what language other Americans speak?
I guess he is parroting Newt Gingrich that everybody in the country should speak English.
