So? There is no official language of the USA. Jeez, it's a free country.

That is exactly what he was doing. He was addressing those Americans in their language, Spanish. This was not a national conference. It was a local event in a city where 94% of the population speaks Spanish and vote republican. He was not addressing the typical "La Raza" Democratic Mexican crowd. These are hardcore republicans.

Republicans really need to stop this speak English in America nonsense. That doesn't go well with many Hispanic citizens because it sounds xenophobic. English is spoken everywhere except in some areas of some large cities. Who cares? You not gonna live in those areas anyway.

English, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. I don't care what language Jeb Bush is speaking, he will never get my vote.

Jeb speakers Spanish at home because his wife isn't fluent in English. Most of the Hispanics in dade county are Republican. Jeb has been pandering to the Cubans for a long time. Did you know you can live in Miami and never learn the language? (ENGLISH) it's true. They have Spanish newspapers, television, and most of the people working in stores will address you in Spanish first.

I don't care for Jeb but Trump is just appealing to the basest feelings in the Republican electorate.

Are we really trying to bash someone for being bilingual ? Do we really need to celebrate our collective ignorance to that extent ?

that comment should make the PC crowd's head explode yet again.

Just more evidence, that there is an illegal alien problem in the USA.
Even here in Texas, 30 years ago, you rarely heard Spanglish being spoken.
Press 1 for english soon appeared to let us all know, there is an illegal alien problem.

No one is bashing anyone for being bi-lingual. But there is a time and place for everything.

It is not just any language. If he went into a community and spoke a little Lithuanian I guarantee nobody would care. It is the context that makes this controversial. There is a well deserved suspicion that the Mexican immigrants have claims on this land and want to flip the southern states. Looking at demographics in CA and elsewhere this is not even debatable. In this climate you make a public address in Spanish and it takes on a whole different meaning.

Since most citizens know English including those whose native language is Spanish then why address them in Spanish? Are the candidates also going to address other citizens whose native language isn't English in their native languages also? There is nothing wrong with expecting Hispanics nor any other "citizens" to speak English when possible. Nothing xenophobic about it. Language can be a divider not a uniter.
