I'm of Irish family and; MOST of us came here legally 100 years ago. Too; the US closed down most immigration, opened up things in 1965 which was a mistake. IMHO soon most immigration WILL be stopped and, action against illegal aliens WILL become much more effective.

Italians: word was 1 in 3 went back to Italy because they were unhappy in the US.

The SAME thing's occurring with the Spanish language in 2016 because so many "Hispanic" people DON'T want to be full on American and, many Latinos support illegal aliens from LatAm over us Americans. So more and more of us pushing back and HARD.
Come to NYC. English is optional and as a city we're doing great. We're the nation's economic powerhouse.

So you got yours, now you think we should stop all immigration?

Def time to stop MOST immigration, NOT "all".

No one is saying that once in this country, immigrants need to stop speaking their native tongue. However, English is the language that binds us all. How else will the immigrant from India be able to converse with the immigrant from Hungary? I use this as an example because I once had 2 co-workers who were from those countries. Every day they would have lengthy conversations. Without neither one knowing English, no conversation or communication could happen.

If English is "optional" in NYC, how would these various disparate groups be able to hold jobs and communicate with others?

I agree!

We currently allow 1 million legal immigrants in this country on a yearly basis. This can't continue as we don't have unlimited supplies of potable water and buildable land. In some older cities, there is little room to expand and that has driven up rents to the point where many people can't afford a place to live. Traffic gridlock grows worse every day.

Immigration whether legal or illegal is the same thing as far as I'm concerned. If someone has the balls to come here illegally and work menial jobs because they don't have the proper paperwork than more power to them.

Goldman Sachs nor GE is really hiring illegals, are they?

One reason why we're so much better off economically than Europe is because we've taken in so many immigrants. One easy way to engineer economic growth is via population growth. A bigger population needs a bigger economy to service it. We have a problem with income inequality but that has little to do with illegal immigration.

Agreed. Too; English IS the "go to" language in the world. Not Russian, Chinese, Swahali and so on; it's English.

If China can house 1.5 billion people, we can accommodate a whole lot more than 330 million.
Have you ever been to the flyover states? My fiancée is from Kansas City. There ain't nothing there my friend except for corn fields and cheap land.

I'd take 5 million young Chinese and plop them down in the Midwest. lol 20 years on we'd be a hell of a lot better off.
