Warren was late to endorse Clinton. I think she was punished for her lack of loyalty.

She isn't punished. At this stage both candidates check who may bring them most votes or at least not deter undecided voters. Anyway, the VP choice isn't going to have major impact on these elections. They just want to make sure there isn't risk of any damage. Warren apparently isn't going to add many voters that Hillary is interested in, but she may push some to vote for Trump.
