The Vet wanted to give it, and Mr. Trump was rather gracious about accepting. It would have been churlish to refuse it.
Accepting the Purple Heart from a fan is one thing but making the comment he did about it on stage was terrible, gross and unacceptable to those who actually earned one for heroism. He should have just thanked him privately and ignored the opportunity to stick his foot in his mouth once again.
Gotta love politics - every move is open for critique.
OMGOMGOMG he put it in his pocket!!! The REAL story!!!!!!! In his pocket!!!!!!!
Never to look at it again. I hope that vet enjoyed his 15 seconds of fame because now he's lost his Purple Heart to a man who couldn't possibly care less about him or the sacrifice he made for his country and would never, ever, make himself. Poor fool.
You would think he has class enough to treat it with a degree of reverence. Lay it on the podium. Pin it to his lapel or something. Put it in his lapel pocket at least. If he really had class, he would've refused it.
...Instead, he puts the guy's purple heart in with his pocket change and lint, like it's just another free keychain.
Small sign, but a sign nonetheless.
pin it on his lapel....OMG Trump has the NERVE to wear a real hero's metal!!!!
Trump turns down metal from teary eyed vet...hang him!!!!
Another fail!
That is exactly what he should have done. Graciously turned it down. But of course is beyond being gracious.
