This is nothing more than the 0.1% backed media deferring to the PC crowd. It's done to get us distracted from who's robbing us blind. And of course Hillary will take over from Obama in continuing the crime spree.
"The" makes the group seem like its a large, uniform mass, rather than a diverse group of individuals. This is the key to "othering": treating people from another group as less than human than one's own group. The Nazis did it when they talked about die Juden ("the Jews"). Homophobes do it when they talk about "the gays".
...I doubt it's an accident that Trump talks about ethnic groups in the same way that we talk about foreign governments and armies. If that "the" treats ethnic groups as some monolithic cabal, that might ring true with the conspiracy-theory mind-set that characterized some of his core audience...
Nobody says "Black Americans." You mean African-American. Of course, if he said that you'd find something else to complain.
Ummm, I'm black and I call myself a "black American."
A lot of black Americans do not call our selves African-American since we are not African, we are American. I have no cultural connection to Africa.
That said, the only thing I cared about in regards to Trump and "the blacks/African-Americans" is that he said that those of us who live in the inner city don't have jobs, get shot at while walking down the street, are uneducated, and live in "hell." He is in some sort of bad 1980s stereotypical movie IMO. I rolled my eyes at his comments on "African-Americans." And I only took offense to me being uneducated, shot at, etc., not that he called me an "African-American."
I know he is speaking to white Americans when he talks about us. Those who, like him, believe false stereotypes about black people.
