People in many states (notably some Democrats) voted for Trump over Clinton because they knew exactly what they were going to get under Clinton and were not satisfied. They were not huge fans of Trump, yet reluctantly voted for him anyway. 8 months into his presidency, he is not doing well as President and he is not performing well in approval ratings either. I usually take polls with a grain of salt, but he is far below the point at which Obama or Bush were at this time in their presidencies. I'm not making any predictions, but those swing voters who gave him the presidency may not be too forgiving.

it depends. What if the left puts out a loon like Warren? Or Hillary 2.o Candidates like Kamala Harris or Kirsten Gillibrand?

people assume that because you have problems with Trump, it means you will jump over to the Democrats side. That is not the case

But, no matter. Trump won't run in 2020 anyway.
I think you're probably right.

At any rate, his 40% approval translates to a probable landslide for Republicans
There are 200 million eligible voters, and if 40% approve then 80 million will vote for him. Only takes 65 million to win (about).

People who approve do so for a specific reason and they will vote. People who disapprove will either not vote or scatter their votes among the competition.
Still, I'm with you. I think Mike Pence is positioning himself for POTUS 46.

Funny, that is pretty much how it was predicted for 2016 (http://time.com/4242667/2016-poll-cl...ld-beat-trump/), and do I need to explain how that played out?

Shine up your Hillary Clinton button, she'll most likely be your candidate.

I'm guessing the Dems inability to learn from their past mistakes will again bite them in the butt in 2020!

You would be better off reading tea leaves, consulting the I-Ching or flipping a coin than looking at bogus polls. Look at this bozo poll from back in December 2015.

NBC Poll: Clinton Would Trounce Trump But Lose to Rubio, Carson - NBC News

These fake polls are put out to manipulate public opinion instead of measure it.

Most Trump supporters will avoid a pollster, because pollsters represent the media, and there is nothing worse than the media.
Most Trump supporters don't even watch Fox News, because Trump supporters think for themselves.
I'll be sure to tell the Trump people I know. Perhaps they will change their viewing habits.

Hard to believe there are still fools who believe in polls.

How soon they forget, "Trump has no path to victory."

Proof that ya can't fix stupid, I guess.
