Star-Telegram.com: | 03/30/2008 | Paul's supporters make inroads at GOP conventions (broken link)

Senate District conventions were held here in Texas on Saturday with some districts reporting a large number of victories for Ron Paul republicans in influencing change within the party. A large number of resolutions were passed, delegate seats for the state convention awarded, and even leadership roles in comittees were won.

I personally attended my local district as a delegate, but was unable to secure a state delegate position. However, my wife will be attending as an alternate in Houston for this year's state convention. .

One district at a time for sound money, for the venerable US Constitution.

It is the longest-standing written set of political institutions on the planet, and there is a reason for, let's not throw it way.

Thanks for this update.

So.....Ron Paul is going to come roaring into the GOP national convention with how many delegates?

Bet they don't outnumber the signatories of the Constitution...

It's too early to say... but there were great victories in Missouri and Alaska already. The state convention here is in June, but out of the few districts that I personally know about, there are hundreds of delegates being sent to state.

At worst the platform will reflect a stance on sound currency, abolishing the IRS, limiting participation in world government, and respecting the right to privacy. While this is in no way legislature, it will serve to remind those in office that a vocal few can influence change.

At best we will have a strong showing at the national convention and be able to make our voices heard yet again. Hopefully we will gain comittee seats in state and national positions.

39 men signed the Constitution.

Actually, 40. And to restate my earlier comment, it's too early to tell. I would venture to say that there's a good chance there will be more than 40 from Texas alone... there are 2488 total delegates sent to the RNC.

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln walked into the Convention with 22 delegates. That's roughly the equivalent of 120 today. Not saying Ron Paul will be the nominee the way Lincoln was, but there is power in even small numbers of people. The neocons who have affected our foreign policy so drastically since the mid-70s only numbered around 100.

"There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root." - Thoreau

It is always easier to the million ways why something cannot work than it is to show one way that it can. All it takes is for good men to do nothing, and apathy and sloth are now seen by many as virtuous.
