The democrat is a mentally ill man and the current sitting governor is a backstabbing gun grabber.....match that with having a communist for one of your senators....good lord....I feel sorry for Vermont.

Don't feel sorry for us. Life is very pleasant here.

I am sure its pleasant but burying your head in the sand is not exactly how I want to live. Saddest thing is yall had a chance to remove that clown gun grabbing governor and didn't! He had a primary opponent.

Putting his opponent on the ballot was a surefire way to get a Democrat elected. The only Republicans that win the Governorship in VT are Moderates. Scott can beat the Democrat nominee who will come across as too extreme, same as Scott's Republican opponent would have come across as too extreme. That's how Scott won, the woman he ran against last time came across as too extreme. Vermont is mostly Moderate leaning left. They are the majority. The Republicans are mostly Moderate, leaning right. There is a far left segment to the population, mostly centered in Bernieland (the Burlington area), but they are not the majority. The far right is almost non-existent.
While I wouldn't support the trans candidate due to political differences, I see it as a good thing that the trans candidate won the nomination. Don't get me wrong, I hope the trans candidate loses (again, due to nothing more but political differences), but the trans candidacy will help to change hearts and minds toward this community. Regardless of what you think about this community, they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.

At least the same respect that is given to the rest of us. We don't have to like our neighbors, but we do have to live next to them in peace and mutual respect.
Me? I don't care who moves in next door. As long as we both stay on our side of the fence, I'll be as neighborly as can be, even if my new neighbor Tammy is 6'4" and wears a beard. That's her biz, not mine, but that won't prevent me from respecting her as a neighbor.

Well I don't; it's their state, leave them enjoy themselves.

The extent to which she changes hearts and minds will depend upon how she and her supporters behave. If people who don't agree with her political positions start being accused of being haters because she is transgender, she will hurt the transgender community rather than help it. We saw this with people who didn't support Hillary being labeled sexist and people who didn't support Obama being labeled racist. In neither case did their supporters allow that people could disagree with them at a policy level. It was always and only identity.
Thus far it seems the identity politics angle of her candidacy has been overplayed. If she wants to advance transgender acceptance the smartest thing to do would be to never mention it again and instead focus entirely on her platform. If she wants transgenders to be seen as people like everyone else, then campaign based on policies rather than identity.
We Vermonters are a tolerant bunch, live and let live, but start calling us names because we disagree with her politics, and it will prove to be a negative for the transgender community.

While I agree that this is how some will react regardless, I thought about adding a caveat to my original statement by writing that this community is deserving of respect unless they choose to show a lack of respect to others. I didn't write that ultimately, however, as I know that it won't be all of a community who shows disrespect; it'll likely be a few out of the crowd. And a few people acting up doesn't warrant depriving the rest of respect and dignity IMO.
Vermont is very different culturally from Alabama. The Southern Baptist church doesn't have much influence there. People up there aren't as uptight about things like being transgender as they are in Trump country.
