The problem with the demise of the suburban Republicans (from outside the South at least) is that they were relatively moderate and might be willing to compromise to get things done. The same thing could be said about the now extinct white Democratic congressmen. Those two groups basically formed the middle, and they’re disappearing, leaving the two sides ever further apart.

Agreed.
And what's left is more extremes to the left and/or right.......

Yep. Good observation, rural areas getting redder, suburban areas joining urban areas getting bluer.

Concur. Georgia will be a state divided in future years I think. With more transplants all the time in Atlanta, it will further divide rural and urban interests.

I remember about a decade ago when Indiana and Missouri were considered swing states... they are solidly republican now. I suspect we may see other midwestern states go the same way in the future, especially as democrats ramp up the anti white male rhetoric. I couldn’t help but laugh when Van Jones said on CNN that the Democratic Party is getting “browner and cooler”.

But if people want to argue that the rural people were fired up, they should have grown their margin, not lose it.

Purely regional specific though. In many Southern states, it’s quite the opposite.

Midwest states are a mixed bag. Kansas is getting bluer, for starters.
