It was the liberal judges who released the mental health patients (they said "They're okay, they can be out in society").

And if the air controllers had not gone on strike (they signed the contract saying that they would not go on strike while employed), they would have not been fired.

That's where Bush gets the idea that they hate us for our freedoms. He gets that from Qutb. He did hate us for our freedoms. He wasn't out to change America, he was out to change Egypt.

Bin Laden eventually moved that over to something more tangible for the radical Muslims. We've invaded their holy lands. Now it's an afront to Islam. That gets us 9/11 and an insurgency against the US.

If you want to know more, I sincerely suggest you watch the power of nightmares. It explains things in ways I don't have time for.

Or do some research on Leo Strauss. He is, after all, the founder of the neoconservative movement.

FYI: The radical Islamic threat began at the same time the neocons did w9ith the same goals, more government control over people through religious ideology. The Power of Nightmares is the story of how the two intertwined and got us where we are today. It really will show you the difference between what you think is a conservative and what is a neoconservative. You won't hear about Barry Goldwater or Robert Taft. You'll hear a lot of names like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Reagan, Bush, Bush Sr, etc.
That was produced by the BBC? Consider the source.

Though the BBC does have a history of...projecting a non-flattering image of America to its viewers and listeners, I fail to see how that makes "The Power of Nightmares" any less accurate. For the record, I would like to see someone document the split between paleos and neo-cons in detail for the masses. American's are now used to the idea that neo-con=conservative.

Well the BBC as with any source of information needs to be viewed with a certain amount of healthy skepticism. As you point out, just because something may be unflattering does not necessarily make it inaccurate. Our press has become the most sanitized and sterilized social marketing department in human history, so much so that it is becoming obvious to even the most casual of observers.

As far as documenting the differences and divisions between neoconservatism and paleoconservatism, you can always pick up a copy or subscription of The American Conservative magazine. While I depart with many of the views of Pat Buchanan, he has an excellent staff of writers with a variety of viewpoints from the traditional conservative perspective. There are many more traditional conservatives who are "seeing the light" so to speak, in how neoconservatives have infected the GOP and essentially played it like a musician plays the piano. Their pandering to dogma and lip service to two important aspects of the GOP (social conservatives and fiscal conservatives) has run its course. We shall now see how the GOP reorganizes itself and how much lasting influence neoconservatism has had on the party in the long term. I for one have no idea what direction it will ultimately lead to.

However, one thing seems to be manifesting itself and that is the migration towards the Democratic Party by many of the neoconservative faithful. (at least in word and tone) As William Kristol stated on live television during the 2004 elections, "It is time that neoconservatives embrace their liberal roots". So I figure it is only a matter of time before the Democratic Party goes through a period of extreme hawkish positions on foreign policy.

Time will tell.

This documentary was not created by BBC. It was aired there. In fact, in 2005, it won an award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for the best factual series.
