Obama is half White, yet in America he is called 'Black' - if they are picking a color, then why not 'White', or 'Mixed', or 'Africaucasian'?

I like that last race description. Well I safely assume I fit into this category being that I am a light skinned black here in America. Somewhere in my genes there is someone who is white or mixed.

Not until the 2000 census were people able to put multiple races or "Other" in statistical data. The problematic confusion with entering race as a number, is basically it's all based on appearance, skin-deep. Obama in an interview once said he moved to South Chicago because no one questions who he was there, he fit in, he was Black because of his skin color. Although his upbringing by his White mother, Indonesian father and White grandparents in Hawaii, no way resemble the traditional upbringing of African-Americans who grow up in the 48 states. However for the sake of statistical data it is best to describe a situation like Obama as two races "African-American" & "Caucasian" or "Other" as some may say and Oreo, Black on the outside, White on the inside.

During one of his speeches this week ( I think it was the one in Independence Missouri) he referred to himself as a "person of color". (I was listening to it; I wasn't paying attention to where he was -- he did "theme" speeches so often in the past week)

Wonder if the change in terms is to make himself more appealing to non-blacks?

obama is called black because he chooses to call himself black. it behooves him to do so. he would have never made it this far if he didn't exploit the black half of himself and called himself white....would he?

obama is an opportunist.

no blacks in america are "africans"...that's total b/s and used only by those with an identity crisis.

Well if we had access to our ancestors birth records we could at least know if any of our ancestors were from Africa and have access to what tribes we originated from. Oh, but I forgot those records were only kept for those who were considered to be 100% human.

There are blacks here in America that are africans. You need to be more specific-know what I mean??

Because in the minds of many Americans, the old rule that "one drop" of black blood makes you black is still in play. It is part of our heritage. This is how America defines people like him, and so this is how he defines himself.
