So I'm wondering if the same benefit of doubt should go to McCain?

Obamas has used many other speechs to form his own in the past. this is a non story.

Is it? Senator Obama had permission from the Author ahead of time and Duval laughed about the inference. What is Senator McCain's defense. Plagiarism is a serious charge. Deferring to Senator Obama is a terrible means for the Senator and/or his supporters to defend the seriousness of the accusation, considering the push for responsibility from Senator Obama.

all politicians copy speeches. we, as a nation, are running out of original sentences. just think about how much the sentence "I'm going to bed" is uttered in our society!

Who said it was a Great Speech?! The issue is he didn't write it nor credit the author and allowed the presumption of originality, until caught.
