That's stupid. WHY give tax cuts to the people who don't really need them? trickle down economics doesn't work.

Default The link is moot

Socialist Democrats campaign on a promise to cut middle class taxes. Should Obama win this election, let's all make a friendly wager on when he will raise taxes retroactive across the board to Jan 1st 2009. Of course, right now he is campaigning on the promise of a middle class tax cut, just like candidate Bill Clinton did in 1992. During the debates, Clinton emphasized he was asking that the top 2% of earners pay 'just a little bit more' to make this tax cut a reality. 43% of the people bought it, and Clinton won the presidency.

Fast forward to February 1993, 3 weeks after the inauguration. President Bill Clinton addresses the country by saying "I've worked harder on this than anything I've ever done in my life, and while I said I'd like to lower your taxes, I can't." He then increased federal income taxes across the board, on all 4 brackets. Later that year, the roll call went to the Senate, and with a 50-50 deadlock, Al Gore cast the deciding vote, causing Democrat members of Congress on the floor (I remember it like it was yesterday) cheering wildly, as it was determined the vote was going to pass. I remember thinking to myself that this was my money these folks were stealing out of my paycheck, and here they are, applauding it.

But, back on track. Obama has made the exact same overtures, using eerily similar class warfare rhetoric along the way. And, it seems as though people want to believe him. Or, maybe, more people now just don't really care. There are plenty of first time voters in this election that are eager for the chance to vote for this man who were in diapers during the 1992 campaign, and will obviously have no recollection of the great big lie Clinton perpetrated on the masses. But it is nothing new. The socialists (Democrat Party) raise your taxes early on in their presidency, or elected term in office, in hopes that 4 years later, you will forget. The pattern is repeated time and time again. So, therefore I put forth this question. How far into an Obama presidency will he retract his middle class tax cut promise? Will he wait several weeks, or 3, like Clinton, or will he renounce it before he even takes office? It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

I just cling tenaciously to the quaint notion that it's their own money to begin with and not the government's. Socialism and government control of everything doesn't work at all. It is far better and more effective to donate to worthwhile charities than to just allow the federal government to redistribute wealth--and it does so to garner votes far more than out of a genuine concern for the well-being of the poor.

You just laid the issue bear, and I will continue to maintain this remains the principle bellwether issue that divides conservatives against socialists in this country today. A socialist believes your money should be confiscated by a centralized bureaucracy, then redistributed via entitlement programs. It matters not at all how much someone makes: it's their money to begin with, irrespective of amount. It is no one else's business how much someone makes. Increases in taxes = a incremental reduction in your liberty. Our founding fathers intended for a very small amount, and equal in % at that, to be taken from us. Marginal tax rates of 36% and climbing were never the intent of the founding fathers.

Without fomenting class envy, the socialist movement (read: Democrat Party 2008) would die a fast death.

I guess you mean children. Have you ever heard of parents supporting their own children. I never had a problem working to support mine. Now it there is some reason the parent CAN NOT work then I agree with you, but only then. If it's because they just DON'T WANT to work , lock them up and have them pick up trash on the roads.
