Bob, I think Kuvopolis' reading comprehension is fine--I think Kuvopolis was jokingly hoping to clarify the *real* Seabiscuit tale.
Your wording (mixing a time in history with present-day actors) was a bit confusing. Whether or not Palin truly is an against-the-odds populist hero remains, IMHO, to be seen. There is a lot of high-flown rhetoric, but not much substance as of yet. Certainly she has been tested in Alaska and shown herself to be scrappy, certainly she will be tested nationally in the coming weeks. And she's got Troopergate to deal with.
Since McCain's VP announcement, the media has certainly been presenting Gov Palin as a fighter and maverick--just like McCain himself.
Chris Matthews called her a maverick in Hardball.
Wolf Blitzer said "Republicans call her a uniter and a tough maverick."
On MSNBC: Kevin Corke said of McCain: "I'm thinking he likes this idea that she's also a bit of a maverick."
I have asked this a few times myself. Maybe she is the real deal. I am not going to slam her without knowing. And I am not going to diminish her just because she is a woman. But if she is what she appears to be, it offers me some hope for the long term direction of the USA which is the point of this post.
Palin = Rocky = McCain's chances, now that he's made this pick.
Sorry, I just can't see it. The GOP likes candidates they can control. Now they have two mavericks to deal with and maverick #1 has already scared some of the higher ups by pulling a surprise like this. With the election just sixty some days away.
If I remember correctly in the movie the character WORKED his way to the top....he wasn't just picked up at the beginning of his career and PUT at the top.....

Now that's the way to put an end to the foolishness, you should do that to end a lot more dumb threads Who?Me?!, rep coming your way!
What depression are you talking about? The last one we had was in the 1930s, and Bridges and McGuire were not even alive.
And if you are looking for inspiration, what about Biden, who pressed on in the Senate after a devastating car acciden that killed his wife and daughter?
And please do not compare Palin to my favorite fictional character (Rocky). It is insulting to the Italian Stallion.
please make sure you use his dead wife and child to try and link him to change!
Appauling!
I have a good friend in Westchester. Bronxville in fact. I understand that Bronxville spends nearly 50k per student in the public schools. My friends daughter is nine and has been taking French classes there for four years and cannot ask what time it is in French.
Your friend should look into what his daughter is doing instead of going to her french classes then?
Yes, Bronxville is very upscale and the schools are highly rates but guess what, someone who doesnt want to learn, won't learn. My daughter is in a comparable system in Kew Gardens, Queens and is getting A's.

LOL, that says it all!
You know, the Rocky analogy hasn't worked well for other politicians... you might want to try something else.
Yup, born poor but conquered against all odds. No more than a novel but an interesting one at any rate. Given choice Id rather watch The Waterboy or Kingpin.
You know. That is what the judges said. But you saw the "fight" with your own eyes. He won.
