What are people's opinions? Do you honestly feel that Barack Obama, given his racial make-up, can have the same assuredness of personal safety as the last two presidents, GWB and Bill Clinton?

Considering that a specific racially-motivated threat has thankfully been thwarted, the night of his convention speech? But the fact that one such attempt has already been pursued, even before the election is revealing and highly disturbing.

No. There are a lot of racists in this country. But he's probably safer than McCain, who probably won't live through his first term.

It's not 'safe' for anyone to be President - that's why the Secret Service protection is so extensive.

In terms of his safety yes I think he would be fine. In terms of our safety if he became President I'm not so sure.

Agreed. But despite this, Obama faces additional venom from racist groups in addition to all of the usual suspects. Could these groups be even more motivated for their cause?

I wanted to re-word my question, but I am not allowed to. I mean his safety. Your's and mine are up in the air, regardless.

I really cant say.
I mean look what happened to our first and so far, only Catholic president ?

He's already gotten death threats. Regardless of how many security he has around him, that doesnt mean he's safe.

I think that Obama would fine with secret service, but unfornately there are some racists with perverted minds who would like to try with compromising his safety. Even with presidents who were white (GW Bush and Clinton), there have been a few deranged people who made attempts on their safety but did not get too far.

It's possible but there are so many wackos out there of every size, shape, belief, etc. Maybe I'm being naive.
