Whoa, Nellie! You mean to say Russian bombers have been near Alaska? While Palin sat in the Governor's chair? Wow! Thank goodness Palin was there to take charge of those US and Canadian fighters that escorted them away. I can sleep better knowing that Palin with her depth of experience and diplomatic expertise is in charge in Alaska.

Reason enough to suspend the VP campaign and return home to shoot down that plane herself from that same helicopter she goes wolf hunting in. Let's see if the debate gets canceled

It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there."

Bomber flights were standard fare during ALL of the Cold War. We had flights of B-52's flying in circles over the ocean, just waiting for the "GO" order that might come over the wire, but thankfully never did. This status lasted for about 40 years or more. Bombers were part of our "triple threat" scheme to totally annihilate the USSR should they attack us. The triple threat was the Bombers, our land-based ICBM's in silo's, and Navy nuclear attack subs that cruised deep in the oceans.

Putin and his pals may have restarted these flights, but what do we expect him to do in response to our putting missiles in Poland, right on his border. I'd be totally pissed if the Russians put missiles in Cuba - again. When that happened in the early 1960's, we almost went to war with the USSR over that matter, so how else can we expect today's Russia to react to us pushing NATO and missiles right into Putin's backyard.

Forgot to add that for almost ten years now we've been building new missile bases in Alaska for the SDI (Star Wars) defense scheme. Another reason for Russia to feel uneasy with us.
