Wow! That is a terryfying prospect, to think that McCain is holding Palin back. I'm sure she's a spectacular PTA president, but she has no business being in national politics.
Statements like this are exactly why we've experienced the last 8 years of partisan divide. She has no qualifications, virtually every major accomplishment as Governor has been debunked. It is impossible for me to understand how people can continue to defend her. As a politician, she is tragically inept.
I cannot even fathom that someone would vote for a candidate based on their views on abortion, same-sex marriage, or religion; as if these are the most important issues to the country.
Hypocrites complain about how politicians lie and spin and such, yet when a candidate says:
Quote:
[i]t’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to ... religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them ... as a way to explain their frustrations
you lambaste him for telling the truth. If you think he is elitist or out of touch, then ask yourself this: If the statement is wrong, what other explanation is there for the Repub's shameless support of a nonviable candidate?

She is the perfect fit!
When I was wavering about McCain/Obama, her choice as VP put me in the Obama column!
Her qualifications (governor, blah blah) matched the one that won the election the last 2 times.. and talk about disaster!

I agree (and I will admit to it) that I don't approve of McCain's pick of Palin. At first I was actually insulted by it (I'm a former Hillary supporter), but I'm still voting for McCain, Sarah or no Sarah....

I would probably have given the ticket a second look with Romney on board. Especially as I'm watching the dow drop 50 points right now from -100 to -150 as bernanke rambles on. Something tells me that he would have had an actual answer to some of the real problems of today, instead we have a VP candidate on the GOP ticket that will call in witchdoctors to overcome our economic woes.

IMHO, I think she was picked mainly because of 2 things: she's a woman (in a ploy to grab the Hillary voters) and she's a radical Christian (to grab the radical Christian group).

I think it's backfiring in his face, tho, because, from what I understand, women for the most part don't like her. Even if she's grabbing the radical right, it's probably not enough to do much good if he's losing women in droves because of her.

Maybe he just picked her as a scary Halloween "trick" rather than "treat" for most of us!

Thanks for the voice of reason, Ani!
StMaarten: this election just leaves me shaking my head! I, too, am ready for change but Obama's policies worry me . . . I want LESS government, not more. And his background as an activist and the legislation he backed in ILL suggest to me he is very much the socialist and for large gov't.

But McCain seems to me a man who came too late to the ballgame. He should have perhaps won the nomination in 2000 . . . now he is just too late. He is a good person but his stance on the war - Hmmm. I think we need to get the heck outta there FAST. Get our soldiers back home! Get them out safely and ASAP. What good are we doing there? We are pouring money into that country when they have their OWN coffers they are not using! Time to get the heck outta Iraq and probably time to get out of Afghanistan, too, unless as part of a UN group along w/ other countries.

Just how I feel!!!!

But I don't think Obama has the experience I wanna see in a leader. Maybe in 8 more years . . . ???

Then we come to Palin. Dear me. You call one of my sons "Joe Six Pack" and I will be inclined to give you a lecture about stereotypes and about condescending labels. Ick!!!! To me, that is a stereotype and I detest stereotypes! As a Southerner, I have heard waaaaay too many inappropriate stereotypes in my day.

What does that even MEAN - Joe Six Pack? The guy who gets off work every evening, stops by and picks up a six pack and sits in front of the TV, drinking til he has a buzz, then drags off to bed? <shudder>

So Palin as a person - well - I don't live in Alaska . . . maybe I would find all this folksy stuff just part of the culture if I lived in Alaska. I honestly do not know!

But take a look at Elizabeth Dole and that pretty much tells you the type of female NC voters would expect to run for political office (and get elected). Or how about Kay Bailey Hutchison?

Can you imagine - in your WILDEST dreams - Eliz Dole or Kay B. Hutchison - saying "Joe Six Pack" or winking into a camera or saying - Dog Gone it!!!!

I mean . . . really.

McCain would have been a much more viable candidate w/o Sarah. IMO

There have already been several threads on this same issue....

I was excited about Palin ... now not so much. I think Conde Rice would have been the dream ticket. I know McCain was going for youth, beauty, spunk, but ... really? If the McCain camp wants to gain credibility, they need to stop hovering around Palin like a scared momma hen. She needs to get out in the media, get over her nerves, and start showing the public she CAN be VP [But I'm not so sure that will happen].

I've voted Republican my entire adult life, starting with Nixon. But I didn't vote for Bush four years ago. I have never voted for a Democrat, but I will next month.

Palin is the worst VP choice in my lifetime. She makes Dan Quayle look like a scholar.
