I'm watching, waiting and wondering what this guy is going to do. Of all the candidates running for President, both Democrat, Republican and even third party, I have to be honest and tell you, he ranked near the bottom of my list. I've been vocal about that here on C-D. So I thought it only fair to pass along my thoughts on his performance so far.

1. Overall, I'd give a solid "B" for his transition team, decisions, appointments etc. I would have given him an "A", but I had to deduct a full grade for his support and continuation of this ludicrous bailout mentality.

2. I give him a "A" for his political appointments so far. There are one or two I'm not nuts about (such as his choice for attorney general) but overall, his choices show that he perhaps does not lean as far to the left as I feared he might and that he's more centrist than I thought.

3. I give him an "A" for taking the right steps at the right time to try to instill confidence in the American public. He's moving right along with his transition team, not dragging his feet making cabinet appointments and making his thinking on policies known, even if it contradicts what he said from the campaign trail.

4. I give him an "A" for continuing the Bush tax cuts and for realizing we're not going to be able to just drop our guns and run out of Iraq and that we'll need an exit strategy.

So, despite my huge misgivings before the election, I'm thinking "so far so good." He's still got a lot of policies and promises out there that make me nervous but as yet hasn't acted on any of them so I didn't include them in my "grades".

I was an Edwards supporter but became an Obama supporter during the primary......not until well after the horrible SC primary. I find myself brimming over with optimism and pride in my President Elect. He displays such command and inteligence and real commitment to getting it right....this is a man who intends to restore America....without partisan sniping or catering to any particular interest group. He is super inteligent and surrounds himself with others of the same capacity.

He takes over a country in ruins.....but I have HOPE!

Yeah, so far so good. As I've mentioned before on this board, Obama is NOT a Far Left Radical but rather a Pragmatist and will govern from the Center. He is smart and THINKS before he acts. Though he has been left with an enormous mess, I'm convinced he is the right person for job (especially at this troublesome time).

Hmm... I would have to disagree..

1) Political appointments are FULL of lobbyist or those heavily-connected to lobbyists... I give him a "D"...

2) I would give him a "B" for his rapid appointments because although its good to appoint people as quickly as possible, you shouldn't be appointing people blindly either... especially when the appointees are from your own staff or Hilliary's staff..

3) I would give him a "C-" for wanting to bailout the financial and auto industry

4) I would give him an "F" for ideology, namely being a socialist...

5) I would give him a "C-" for saying things and then going back on your word.. He says that he won't increase taxes on middle class, now he says he won't repeal Bush's tax cuts? I wonder what he is going to do with the tax loopholes... probably NOTHING either...

Overall, a failing grade... we will see next year when he implements his socialist policies but its weird.. China started out as a socialist country and had a bunch of problems.. their cure? Free market capitalism which will lead them to be "THE" superpower of the world... What does America do? Start with free market capitalism and enjoy decades of wealth and power to going into socialism... great, he wants us to be like China when they were corrupted by these politicians...

I would assume that a surgeon has to carefully choose his surgical team based on their expertise to perform their assigned task during a complicated and intricate surgical procedure. I use this analogy because that is what it appears Obama is doing to get to the root of and excise the malignancy that The Bush Crime Family has inflicted on this country.

You're just as much a socialist as Obama. Here you are using the Internet - a socialist public good - and you have the gall to throw around the word as if it's an insult.

PS - Kudos to the OP for this post. Even if the grades had been lower.

Those of us who supported Obama from day 1 knew all along he was a pragmatist.

He's more of a Burkean liberal, JFK Democrat.

Seriously. I'm not asking for everyone who opposed Obama's presidency to sing his praises now, but at least go into this thing with an open mind. Thanks to the OP for doing so.

Some people would so like to see him fail that they don't care if that means the collapse of the country......and some of those were the ones who rallied under the Country First banner. Since they lost the election....they would like to see us all lose the country. If he has to postphone the roll back of the Bushtax cuts for the wealthiest......I trust his judgement and I absolutely trust his motivation. Obama never was a socialist.....that was just desperate "wasilly" talk designed to stir up base and give something to the increasingly desperate crowds at GOP rallies. Obama talked about spreading prosperity around.....that is the American Dream...not socialism.

The inability of some people to get past the campaign and to support the country is pathetic. Fortunately they were a minority and are even fewer now in this period of national crises when all Americans are supporting and praying/or wishing the best for our President Elect and for America.

This is a statement of his where I do have problems. I believe that prosperity exists and is possible for anyone here in America but I don't believe in "spreading it around" if you have to rob Peter to pay Paul (or play Robin Hood). If someone works hard and makes a good living, why penalize them so that someone living on public assistance can get a bigger handout? Yes, I know I'm generalizing and it's not all that black/white, but in my opinion, that's the gist of the "spread it around" mentality that bugs me so much.

I can get completely behind encouraging everyone to be the best they can be and providing economic carrots to do so. But no free handouts, especially at the expense of other hardworking people. (taxpayers)
