If that is true, the military should have locked up Dubya, who made it a point to take away our constitutional rights.

"Don't ask don't tell" is a discriminatory crock of you-know-what, and I will applaud Obama for finally abolishing this law. And if you (the OP) think an "added expense" to accommodate homosexual soldiers is good enough reason to discriminate, I wonder how you'd feel if the situation were reversed? What if they decided to no longer allow married soldiers, since obviously that will lead to more expenses? I'm sorry, but there is NO price tag on equality and civil rights - anyone who thinks otherwise needs to re-read our constitution.

P.S. I found your comment about condoms/AIDS to be highly offensive... not to mention, how many single straight soldiers are having risky sex? Aren't they kinda famous for that??

I got it! Open homosexuality in the military should be allowed. However, instead of "armed forces," it will have to be "metrosexual forces." How about pink helmets for all?

We haven't strayed far enough from the Constitution (yet). God forbid if we do, you'll notice the chain of command breaking faster than you can blink.

Of course, the military was one of the first institutions in America to conduct two important "social experiments" - integration and affirmative action. I agree, both have been quite successful.

And it does not matter that Obama has not served a day in uniform; in the very near future, because we had an all-volunteer force after Vietnam, the vast majority of politicians, including Presidents, will not have served. And they will be just as effective Commanders In Chief as people such as Reagan and Bush 41 and 43 who did serve in uniform.

Disrespecting and violating a fellow soldier on the basis of sexual orientation should be grounds for dishonorable discharge. I do not know what version of the dark ages some of you conservatives are living in, but in the real world, a gay person is no more or less adept at training and/or carrying out orders than a straight one. I will bet there are plenty of female and/or gay soldiers who are even better at their job than some of the straight, god-fearing variety so many of you champion. But go ahead and keep telling yourselves whatever makes you happy...you probably will not change anyway, as you have obviously been poisoned & brainwashed by the bigoted minds of those who raised you and the corrupted priests who yell about hell and damnation right before they bone some poor little boy in the cornhole.

But why should anybody change to please others? Believe it or not, most military members are straight, and religious. Why should military members be forced to accept homosexuality in their ranks?

Of course there are homosexuals, rapists, bisexuals, swingers, and all kinds of folks in the military, but that's not the norm. Bill Clinton compromised and changed the rules relating to homosexuality in the military, and now Obama wants to screw things up even more.

Most military CLAIM to be straight and religious, (probably to save their heads from being shoved in a toilet.) Change is part of life...it is called evolution. If we, as a species, can not evolve past ugly things like homophobia and outdated religious ideals, we are truly doomed. I only hope there are enough people out there who still believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to bypass all the bigots who believe anyone who strays from their narrow perceptions of right and wrong is less intelligent, capable, worthy of love, and deserving of fair & equal rights than they are. Part of enlightening oneself is questioning accepted truths, both within and without. People who are too scared to do so will inevitably stagnate.

Sounds very pretty and full of emotions, something that perhaps is very useful in the civilian sector. In the military, however, there are not such things as you have mentioned. Change is part of life, but on its own, not shoved-in from outside. Do you really believe that in the military one is interested, or even aware of, "touchy... filly things" relating to "...in life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness"? That's pure nonsense. Military members follow orders down the change of command, and these have nothing to do with social issues. Do you know what "GI" stands for?

And no, military training does not include dunking fellow military members in the toilet.
