Great point guy.

I suppose youd rather go back to Bushs plan of, o wait yeah he didn't have one.
No....THAT is what leftist wanted Bush to do...and were in fact DEMANDING such a date.

My point was 'Obama's plan' is basically the same as the one Bush had...to watch events on the ground and to react to those events.

Except Obama will actively begin taking troops out of Iraq, and the COMPLETION of this withdrawal might take longer. Bush on the other hand, wanted to leave everyone in Iraq as long as possible until some magic happened and then the BEGINNING of the withdrawal may or may not start.

So yeah, if you want to go the Bill Oreilly way and try to spin words to your liking, you almost have a point. Sadly in the grown up world, I can see right through that flimsy argument.

Us troops have already been withdrawn, perhaps you missed it?

Obama is not calling for a COMPLETE withdrawal at all if you read his website.

no need for personal attacks simply because someone disagrees with you.

You're wrong on two counts. The date of withdrawal was dictated by the Iraqi government. The Bush administration wanted an open ended clause in the SOFA, but didn't get it.

The second point is that the Obama plan predated Bush's come to jesus recognition that withdrawal was going to happen with him or without him.

The "surge" troops have been withdrawn, Bush never actually had any intention of letting Iraq go on its own anytime soon. In fact he wanted another surge in the later part of his presidency. Thats what I'm trying to get at. You are the one saying that both of their plans are the same, when its obvious that they are not. Its not differing opinions, you're just wrong.

From the Washington Post, January 31, 2007

"The Obama plan, called the Iraq War De-escalation Act of 2007, would begin a troop withdrawal no later than May 1, 2007, but it includes several caveats that could forestall a clean break:

It would leave a limited number of troops in place to conduct counterterrorism activities and train Iraqi forces. And the withdrawal could be temporarily suspended if the Iraqi government meets a series of benchmarks laid out by the Bush administration. That list includes a reduction in sectarian violence; the equitable distribution of oil revenue; government reforms; and democratic, Iraqi-driven reconstruction and economic development efforts. Obama's proposal also would reverse Bush's troop-increase plan."

Obama Bill Sets Date For Troop Withdrawal - washingtonpost.com

A Responsible, Phased Withdrawal

Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.

Under the Obama-Biden plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq and in the region to conduct targeted counter-terrorism missions against al Qaeda in Iraq and to protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel. They will not build permanent bases in Iraq, but will continue efforts to train and support the Iraqi security forces as long as Iraqi leaders move toward political reconciliation and away from sectarianism.

And how does this differ from the plan Bush had in place???

To add, from reading the WH website we ALL can see that Obama is NOT going to pull out of Iraq...

Thanks for showing that.
