I went probably 15 years ago or so, with my wife. Realized that it really was not my kind of thing, but people there seemed to be having a good time. To each his/her own.

One observation, and maybe this has changed, but I thought the hippies made the "mainstream" people feel marginalized. Kind of like, "This gathering is for us, not for you." But I suppose every group does that to outsiders (i.e. a punk would probably not be welcomed at the Oregon Jamboree).

More and more 'mainstream people' are just paying guests like anyone else. So I doubt the crew would actively try to marginalize the crowd that brings in the money.

But certainly, you should look at the calendar of events before buying a ticket. If it's really not your thing, you'll probably know. Most of the events and music (and even some of the food, like the tofu cheesecake) lean crunchy. There are a few local rock bands, but on the whole it leans more 'Sugar Beets' than Dan Jones or Floater.

That said, I suppose it's possible other guests with something to prove challenging your 'street cred' as it were. I haven't been since about 2010, but at that point no one was calling me out for not joining their drum circle.

They don't have a Oregon County Fair. The Fair is by specific counties, like Douglas County Fair, etc.

Douglas County Fairgrounds

There is an Oregon Country Fair ... Oregon Country Fair 2014

The weekend following July 4th will see the start of this year debauchery. It is a fun thing if you are into hippie fairs. The parking is ridicules, but there is a bus will drop you off right at the gate to start your 2 mile walk in.

The Country Fair will probably not be held this year. Here is a video to remember the good times and remind us of what we have lost.

What many don't realize is that the Country Fair is a pretty big money maker for the alternative community and many of the vendors. It's also a time for that tribe to gather and re-connect in the evenings. I know people who travel thousands of miles to hang out with their friends. I hope they get to have it this year. I know its important to some vendors.
