Snow is NOT something you need to worry about in the Willamette Valley.

What would keep you from getting Oregon plates as soon as you move?

Nothing, nothing at all. And it is on the "to do" list of items for day one, beside unpacking & all the other feelings & anxiety that I am sure are part of a relocating move.

Sorry I'm late to this thread...

1) Not bad. We moved to OR via CA orig from TX. When people thought we were "from CA" they were actually nicer to us than when they then found out we were from TX. lol Oregon people somehow have this idea that Texans are gun-totin' right-wing conservative a-holes or something. I dunno. Anyway, I think it's developers from CA, or also "flippers", that people in Oregon really don't like. Once people get to know you, it really doesn't matter where you're from. As far as the car: if you drive a prius or a Subaru, especially older ones with tons of stickers all over the back of them, it really doesn't matter what kind of plates you have. You're one of the cool kids.

2) Not bad. Especially lately as Springfield is really working hard to spruce things up and Eugene has sorta been kicked down a notch due to the "traveler's" issues and so many loud college kids. Both cities are great in their own ways. No place is perfect but Eugene and Springfield both are very comfortable and affordable places to be.

3) I'd prolly call a temp agency and talk to somebody there, pick their brains a bit. If you can arrive with a job you would be doing yourself a huge favor. One thing you might also try is finding a way to volunteer your services - gets your foot in the door. Maybe this link will help? Lane County Legal Aid Or you could also try talking to someone at the University: https://law.uoregon.edu/

Haggardhouseelf, Thank for the tip and all the info. Will look into the link you sent. Appreciate it. Bounced around TX in my 20s, Army years. I was station in Lawton, OK and we had friends in TX, so we would do road trips on most holiday weekends and every other non holiday. Fun times.

If you both make $10/hr (barely above minimum wage), that puts you in median household income. That's how sad it is here. Although I think we have more law offices per capita than normal, so you might be able to get a job at one? I highly discourage moving here without a job lined up. Springfield is cheaper, especially when it comes to utilities.

We had calculated finding something in the range of $12-14. And due to the higher level of demand in Eugene because of the impact of the UofO (in a good way) but would maximize the $12-14 in Springfield. At least that is the theory.

Cool California to Eugene area

Dear Roman Empire,
So you are done with California....that's what we thought....we moved to Eugene
in November of 2014, and have wanted to go back on day one. I had blinders on
when we moved here. This is the Berkeley of Oregon, and all that it implies. We can't wait
to move back to all that we thought was wrong with California...this is like moving to another
planet. Hope you like hunting.

Hunters in Berkley? Is it hippies or rednecks that you object to?
