3) Back to demographics, when east european immigrate, they generally assimilate rather quickly there just another group of white people.
4) Its western culture means that there is nothing exotic or strange that can easily be picked up on without understanding the language.
And all Western culture is the same.
While we're familiar with Italian culture - as in the art, food.etc, you'd be surprised at how much of a culture shock you can get by actually visiting Italy.
They don't have a large tourist infrastructure and most internal tourism in Europe is Sun and Beaches.
The day the can offer all-inclusive beach/city/spa resorts for 20€/day for 50 million tourists, they will be famous. But then, they have very short seasons and no infrastructure. Croatia and Slovenia are very well positioned.
As someone who actually comes from E Europe (Romania) here goes:
- The economy is bad, but people complain all over the world; and nowadays, where is it better to live anyway?
- The scenery is amazing, I can't even begin to describe it.
- There seems to be a general idea that E Europe is very unsafe, which is not the case; of course, you need to be carefull, but just as you would have to be in Paris or London or Toronto
I know for many E Europe has this kind of misterious vibe; the people might seem a little strange, too, they have a kind of fatalism and hardness that are not easy to understand for someone who hasn't lived in opression all their life - communism is gone, but the people didn't die with it.
Some are tired of the immigrants who come from this part of the world, the thieves and the criminals always manage to make the headlines. Others consider eastern europeans some kind of under educated peasants, but, ah well, we don't always think to highly of the western civilization, either. So, all is good!
I guess you don't have Romanians, Serbians, Moldavians and Albano-Kosovars in rural Canada. Want some?
Yeah, I know, they take the jobs, they take the health benefits, they steal and create havoc wherever they go. I wonder what do Native Americans think about Americans?

Fortunately, I got to know Romania before it joined the EU, so these C-D threads are the first I've heard that Romanians are considered to be thieves. How sad. People are really missing out by not visiting Romania.
You said it (bolded)! Romania is great for mountain hiking, skiing, visiting castles, visiting medieval painted churches, traditional folk festivals like nowhere else in Europe, and meeting great people for great conversations.
Yeah, I'd be interested in that.
I just came across this speech of Lukashenko on the issue of the Belorussian language vs Russian language that is still widely spread in Belorussia - he sounds as very intelligent and wise man, actually...
What language would that be ? Many focus only on Russsians in East Europe and Swedes in Nordic land s because they have limited general knowledge.
Pick a Slavic language, and adapt to each country's version of Slavic. Or Romanian, for Romania.
