I would say the north african feel of Sicily shows more in the culture and food than in people's physical appearance.

It is a very complex Island anyway.

Smile About Sicilians

Why do people not think that Sicilians are not wonderful and interesting? We are such a diverse people. Sicilians are also such strong survivors since we have withstood so much during our history! So many people have tried to overtake Sicily and we have had to stick together and have tried to work so hard for what is ours and we are not lazy. Anyway, in God's eyes it does not matter who is who. Everyone is the same in the eyes of God. Nobody is better than anyone else. It does not matter where you come from, where your heritage is from or what you look like on the outside. It is who you are, how big your heart is, how much you love! What is most important is how faithful you are, if you can be depended upon, will you follow the right path. Passion is not a bad thing for to be without an opinion, to have just a flat face, to be a follower, that is a fate worse than death for then you are nothing. Yes, we are Italiano but we are Siciliano Italiano! What is the difference I ask you? We are human beings first! Every single soul upon the face of this Earth is wonderful and beautiful!

I know that many Italians will not admit it, but there are more "sicilian like" Italians (not racially speaking) than Lombardian like.

The "Mediterranean Italy" starts in Sicily, crosses the river po and includes veneto as a whole, meanwhile alpine/semi-central European Italy hardly makes up 1/10

Saying "Mediterranean Italy" I mean this part of Italy, where you can find south European culture (architecture etc) way of life, temperament etc

BTW there's nothing "north African" about Sicily, maybe except for cuisine, which makes sense, as the climate is often similar, and ingredients being produced are the same.

Being in casablanca feels nothing like being in Syracuse

Not all Greek Islands, only dodecanese and eastern Crete. South mainland Greece and Greek Islands like cyclades, North Aegean and ionian islands are genetically close to abruzzo

Anyway, Sicily, campania and abruzzo are always welcomed to join us

Little Italy in NYC today is a shadow of what it used to be. The area that is still kinda Italian is about 2 block's worth (though fortunately, Ferrera's for confectionary and desserts is still going strong!). Neighboring Chinatown has expanded around it, so the majority of the residents are Asian now.

Sicily is truly a wonderful place. So much history, culture, beauty. And superb cuisine.

Gauls, and Celts are much, much, much more Southern than people want to think, the way Germanics are much, much, much more Slavic related than people want to think...
