thank you all for the comments! very reassuring! i noticed that many had the europeans had negative or heard of negative encounters with americans, but i would like to tell you that foreigners in america are admired and loved, not so much in new york city because most people are foreigners themselves, but most everywhere else is different. just be ready for a barrage of question about the country your from.

Not really, have you been to South Carolina or Oklahoma or Arizona or Kansas etc......
Its called jealousy, our Effiel tower has a buffet and a casino at the bottom.
Btw I know plenty about the rest of the world and the media taught me none of it, so maybe keep your ignorance in America and you'll do fine.
just thought id clarify. i don't use the mass media news agencies. i just thought i would give a possible explanation on why americans sometimes are lacking in foreign knowledge. i never liked to believe any of the stereotypes that are associated with france so i thought the bust way to clear things up was from the french themselves. hope i didn't offend anyone.

i havent. I'm from the north east. i had friends who had many foreign exchange students and people love to come over and talk to them, all of them we're great company.
i dont mean to upset anyone but being from the the cut off and sheltered country known as the united states, the only thing we know of the rest of the world is what the media tells us and the extremely limited travel abroad we get thanks to my 12 day vacation.. any way i always wanted to visit paris but i am always hearing of how americans are immediately bashed for steeping into your country. don't know how accurate these stereotypes are but i do know that when many americans leave the US they try the "we're canadian" stunt.. any info and tips on how to be considerate of your culture would be appreciated. thanks
This is a false rumor and myth thought to have been started by Canadians. Americans do not pose as Canadians abroad, there's no evidence to support it.

It was a bush era thing, no one really does it anymore.
To me it always seems that it's just the opposite. It's the Americans who hate the French. I was quite embarrassed by the comments of the cable news-casters like O'Reilly and another Fox guy who were just gross with their insults. As to being poor fighters how about the Maquis and the French Resistance which history says was the greatest resistance movement in the history of the Western world? And what about the French Foreign Legion? Yes it is made up of mainly foreign soldiers but the cadre are all French. They have a pretty impressive record.
Having never lived in France my French is not the greatest but I have always been complimented on my effort to speak it.
That Fox news guy even mentioned changing the name of French's Mustard. I guess he didn't know that French in an English surname and to a French one. No wonder I hate cable TV.
The destructive right-wing extremist organization known as Fox News doesn't represent America.

You know that and I know that but a lot of people don't know that. Besides, it just takes one word from a loud extremist to create a problem that doesn't and shouldn't exist. Especially when they repeat it over and over. O'Reilly has way more power than he should have. Fox is number one (God knows why) in cable news and it is a network that reaches a larger international audience than American MSM news. This IMO is not a good thing but it is the nature of the beast. And before I am asked I believe it is a bad thing because Fox News depends more on sensationalism than news value which can be said of many cable news outlets as compared to MSM.
