He clearly doesn't about the people in his country who happen to be gay -- except to the extent that he wishes they would collectively disappear. That's what this law is really all about. It has nothing to do with "protecting children" -- he has also banned American couples from adopting Russian children, even though there are currently 600,000 children languishing in Russian orphanages.

Wonderful, because children who are born gay don't grow up with identity issues at all. This is perfect. And yea, Putin has been a miracle of good governance and fair rule.
